If it's true that Joe's finally benched then I say that's a good decision made after the deepest possible consideration (some might say months too late) and I think that we all owe it to Joe to give him our fullest support as he works his socks off to regain his 2011/12 form again (as I'm sure he will do).

I also think that we need to afford Costel that same generosity of patience if he drops any clangers as he gets up to speed with the premier league. He's a big lad but fast with it and I think he has it in him to be a world beater if given a decent run of games to settle in.
If we had De Gea and the rags had Hart, we'd be top with a 9 point lead and they'd be in 12th place - that's the difference between a 'good' keeper and a 'top class' keeper - 12 places - think about it.

huge and unnecessary risk if Manuel really has ditched Joe - hope it works out for them both

If it's true Joe can't say he wasn't given chances - he was outplayed by Lemons in preseason and has been hit and miss in our competitive matches so far. I'm another one who thinks he is the sort of person to respond positively to being dropped.

I don't think it's 'ditching' as such, it's benching which is taking a player out of competitive games while he recovers from illness , injury or loss of form. Leaving Joe in the side week in and week out facing games with his form on the floor wasn't good for the guy in the same way that playing on with a physical injury isn't always a good thing.
Joe Corrigan went through a similar phase and benching him sorted him out so that he went on to become a long-serving City legend - Joe Hart can do the same if he can prove himself better and get Costel out of the side again.
If we had De Gea and the rags had Hart, we'd be top with a 9 point lead and they'd be in 12th place - that's the difference between a 'good' keeper and a 'top class' keeper - 12 places - think about it.

He comes across like a spoiled brat and he's entitled to something. Probably one reason e comes miles out of his area all the time, entitled to save the day. I for one see him sulking if pant performs. Would be funny if he gets dropped for 5 games, comes back and drops a howler in his first game back. I'm honestly fearful every time someone shoots at joe that it might go in even if it's a terrible shot.

Very disappointing!

Not from Pellers but from Joe Hart. Soem may look at the info that he is not playing but I'm looking at how this has come out before the game. We all knew about the messages before and after the Cup Final (God knows what went on) and now we are getting messages away from the clubs own statements.

Says a lot to me and moreso that our English contingent are putting extra pressure, through agents or friends, to ensure they stay in the limelight.

If this has been leaked by Joe he can get to fuck, but as usual, us as fans will never know.

Ah the media will have a field day with this shite. He is dropped because he has been muck, he can come back after a little bit of re-focusing.

What's your take on this as a keeper if he is dropped ?

Irrespective of whether he deserves it or not, do you think dropping him could do more harm than good or would you expect him to come back stronger ?

Even with that as a consideration, I still say that we're better off with Joe on the bench at the moment.

I liked what Martinez said about this:

Everton manager Roberto Martinez said he believed the move was to protect Hart.
"Joe Hart is a fantastic goalkeeper but every player in the world goes through good moments and bad moments of football," Martinez told BBC Radio 5 live.
"The manager can protect the player. But it's not just about dropping him, it's also about giving the opportunity to another player and helping Hart get back to his best.
"He's taking him out of the firing line. It's unfair Joe is under so much scrutiny".

Makes a lot sense coming from an experienced and intelligent PL manager.

I honesty don't know. If that was me I would be gutted but I would get my head down and work hard, extra training ect. Is he someone who will allow his ego to get in front of him though and have a sulk? Surely he will want to prove people wrong though and show us all that it's a blip. I think he needs some time out time and I agree with the decision to drop him. No one player can be untouchable.

In regard to Panti, I like him. Not very spectacular but does it nice and easy. We use the word clean at lot when we train "keep it clean" is always shouted at us and that's what Panti does. He deserves his chance.

More harm than good. Am surprised to be honest. A few home games which we will likely win would do Hart world of good

I'm not a keeper, but if he falls to pieces after being dropped once, he's probably not up to it anyway.

When this was being debated last time, he came back against Everton and had probably his best game of the season. I don't think he's become a bad keeper, but his decision making has become rather David James.

I don't know if it's the coaching he's had over the last couple of seasons or concentration levels or itchy scalp or what, but nothing has worked over the last year to sort it. Perhaps being dropped, even for one game, will help him.

I hope i never see Joe play for us again. 4 things pissed me off majorly about him. He made no attempt to save that scuffed shot by Rooney in the derby last may. He stopped that City fan punching camelgob. He gripped Aguero by the neck and started screaming at him during a scuffle at the swamp in april, again protecting his rag mates. He does head and shoulders adverts.
