Great to see someone on Skysports defending us. He actually thinks we can win the Champs league. Loved it when he defended us when that scouse prick brought up the bayern defeat.

I was thinking - did Carragher ever win the CL? He seems to know what it takes to win! He thinks.

I actually thought the exchanges between Hamann and Carragher/Wilkins were really interesting, pretty fair and of a really high standard. Carragher made a good point when he said that we can't give away soft goals at home in the knockout rounds with the away goals rule in effect. He was also right in saying that there are 'three or four' teams in the competition - Bayern chief among them - who can play as good football as us without looking so easily penetrable at the back. Hamann's dismissal of the Bayern game as an aberration and his pointing to our having conceded a soft goal early on, which took the initiative away from us and made the task extra difficult against the best team in the world, was also compelling.

Between their two viewpoints lies the truth, which they all acknowledged: we're capable of winning the competition but we can't rely solely on our attacking prowess when we come up against the better sides.

I like it how Wilkins just outright said Young dived. No political answer or anything, just the truth.

Even though he's prone to talk some shite at times, I do quite like Wilkins.

God I'd forgotten the lucky streak!

Well they certainly didn't have what it took that year, but they won it.

Did anyone see the Gollum interview after their match? I caught a glimpse on Sky;s highlight show and he refered to the team as "They".
For example he was asked about the referee and the decisions he made and he said "I thought "they" were very hard done to and "they" never got any decisions". "They" meaning the Rags. Surely it should be "WE" as he is the manager.......albeit a shite one ;-)

Not sure how he can say they didn't get any decisions when you look at Ashley Wanker Young doing his impression of the Caterpillar!!

Nice one Didi but let's not get ahead of ourselves, it was only a few weeks back we had our arse handed to us by one if Europe's elite. Good to have some friends on the punditry circuit though.

I don't think anyone is getting ahead of themselves if they say we are capable of winning it. Thing is, it's knock-out stages from now on and almost anything can happen. Quality of the likes of Plzen wouldn't be enough to go all the way but with the players we have & with a bit of luck, I don't see a reason why we couldn't beat anyone over two legs.

I'm not booking flights to Lisbon or anything but I dare to dream

Chelsea weren't the best team in it two years ago. You need a plan and a lot of luck.

We do need to sort out the defence - even in the first half last night when we were totally in control we looked vulnerable when they got the ball. If that had been Barca, PSG etc we'd have been in real trouble. That said, we wouldn't have attacked with such abandon against a team like that.

Last night didn't teach us much, other than we can play brilliant attacking football at times. What it did give us was a chance to prove ourselves against a top team. Will make for an interesting couple of games.

After giving away three soft goals..... kinda shoots his own argument down.
