What can we win if we by well in January?

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

What can we win if we by well in January?

Postby Bluedj » Fri Nov 08, 2013 9:50 am

Obviously the CL can take a back seat now till Feb's last 16 round. But, if we buy well in the Januarys transfer market, what realistically can we win this season?

MP is putting together some fantastic performances........going forward, football again is at the highest drooling level, similar to what we witnessed in our championship winning season........I think the signs are that we starting to look even better than then.......then there's our defence :-(

So.......what positions do we need to strengthen and who realistically CAN we bring in, as opposed to, who would we like to bring in?

And with that, what can we achieve this season?

Thought Ladies & Gents please...........................????

After seeing Newcastle take apart Chelsea I honestly think we only need to worry about arsenal. Get a win or draw away and a win at home should see us close the distance.

To me, what's worrying is, every time the opposition go forward you don't have confidence that this defence will simply deal with it, ala CSKA, we were cruising and then they got a goal and were partially back in the game, not once but twice. Fortunately I strikers dealt with it, but on a bad day it creates a worry and could cost us trophies. In the CL those away goals could haunt us big time.

Three areas I would like us to bring in. A new CB, a new LB and DM cover

If we are to challenge for the Champions Lg, we will have to take a big step forward as a team, from where we were v Bayern, to facing the next big team we are drawn against.

We have already taken part of that step; the team with Negredo, Aguero fully fit & Silva is a much better side than the one with Dzeko, Navas etc which started v Bayern. The workrate alone of the front two is possibly twice what we saw in that game. Also, the keeper isn't giving teams a goal start. But enough to match a 6 man midfield controlled by Pep Guardiola ?

In the league, you would expect Arsenal to have a fuckup period at some point & personally, I would expect Chelsea to get stronger, unless Mourinho has lost it. But I would make us favourites for that.

We have a good chance with both cups but injuries/priorities may come into that.

If we sign anyone, they could still need 6 months to bed in. But without that, we are on target for a good challenge in 3 trophies & an outside challenge in the other. If a really superb signing was made, who bedded in quickly & improved us further, we would win the league & probably hoover up another trophy or two imo.

Well Ted, at least we won't be getting Bayern in the next round...so that's something.

Good assesment. Two or even three trophies with a semi in the other is a real possibility. A lot depends on injuries and luck of the draw in the cups but if, and its a big if in Jan window, we get a defender or two who improve us and slot right in, we will beat most teams and beat them well
