If we don't beat Sunderland without Merlin then we can forget about winning the league.

I have a feeling that most of these injuries will be miraculously healed after the international break. Is anyone whose national team has a qualifier coming up injured?

No not at all. Call it coincidence. In most cases a calf tear is a result of another issue. It could be an weak ankle, hamstring issue, etc. It just happens that the calf takes a lot of load and that is what ultimately tears.

It looked like stud damage from what I saw of it - against cska he took a stamp / set of studs into the back of his calf and went down injured but got up and carried on before being subbed shortly afterwards so I think it's most likely deep bruising which can be bad.
If we had De Gea and the rags had Hart, we'd be top with a 9 point lead and they'd be in 12th place - that's the difference between a 'good' keeper and a 'top class' keeper - 12 places - think about it.

Really gutted about this, he was finally hitting form again and producing performances close to the title winning season and then he gets injured. Real shame. However, our best performance of the season came without him, the 4-1 v Rags. So we can cope. We'll obviously be a little more direct without him as no one else in our squad can do quite what he does.

I'm more worried though that it could have a knock on effect on Aguero's performances. Those two really do bring the best out of each other.

The only "good things" involved with this injury are:

1. Nasri seems to be a new player and in great form

Hopefully he can keep it up while Silva is out and can shoulder the burden on being the man responsible for pulling the strings in midfield

2. We've already qualified for the last 16 in the CL

3. Spain didnt call him up even though he's injured

I hate it when national teams call up injured players. All it does is jet lag them for their parent club
