A player is a worker who is employed to do a job of work...it really is as simple as that. If he doesn't like his boss, it puts him in exactly the same place as many many millions of other workers, who each day get up and go to work, doing a job they hate, for a company they don't like, for a boss they can't stand. They get their wages and no thanks for their efforts.

It's the way the World is and has been for many thousands of years...It's called life and most people get on with it and do their best. That is called professionalism.

If Edin Dzeko has a reason to complain, then he has every right to do so, but he has no right to do a lesser job for the money he is earning...That is called responsibility.

Footballers earn £Ms each week, whilst most of the rest of us are stuck with..."Fuck, bollox, shit, bastard," dragging their arses out of bed to go to work for relative peanuts, in conditions they would rather not be in.

GET FUCKIN REAL. If they can't be arsed to do a proper job for their megabucks, then they can fuck off.

What is your take on this story then John?

I'm not saying that this happened at us but if somehting similar happened, would you still feel the same?

You're a twunt for pretending to be a 'football newb' (and someone who didn't know how to use Google) though.

Quite a while back, can't remember just how long ago. I used the term 'false forward' rather than 'false nine' and instead of asking me why, you tested my knowledge by pretending to be someone who didn't know much about football. Your background that you shared earlier in the thread shows you probably know a few things about it. (Apologies, but I seem to have a photographic memory for trivia, can never remember the important stuff though).

No mate, I didn't test you. I honestly didn't get what a false nine was :). It seemed like I missed the introduction of the term and then all of the sudden everybody was using it without explaining it. Honestly, I still don't know what it is but that's not your fault.

If I'd test anyone it would be Ted. But he never fails on the other hand.

Coco,

I apologise for not going into greater depth regarding my point Mate....but I did expect that what I meant would be understood and never thought for one moment anyone would test my point with an extreme situation.

But...nevertheless...I will play the game...and explain....

The fuck I will....You know exactly where I was coming from...reel your worm in and save your bait for the next fish...:-)

Not fishing mate. What I meant is that stuff happen. This incident in the NFL we got to know about. A lot of other stuff we never learn about. Money or no money, a bully or hostile boss or crap work environment will make people complain or feel dissatisfied.

With Dzeko though... I think you have to look to find a nicer manager than Pellegrini. That's what I've read anyway. If Dzeko can't get his mojo going under the count I wonder what it would take.

Dzeko needs to be a number 1 striker at a club.

Similar to Aguero with us, being do valuable that the odd bad game won't see them sat for the next 4 or 5. Aguero gets that leeway cos he is our top man.

Difference is Aguero has more good days than Dzeko and offers more on his bad day. What Dzeko wants is unlikely to happen at any of the really big clubs. Let's face it you wouldn't bench benzema, rvp, Torres etc for consecutive games while dzeko searches for his form.

Coco,
You get no argument from me about that sort of shit happening mate. Of course it does. I come from a time when we had factories and spent many years of my youth fighting bosses from the shop floor, so I have personal experience.

But, to link that sort of shit with the point I was making is grossly out of order.

I will add, that many (but not all) modern footballers appear to consider themselves a special breed, living in some sort of bubble removed from the real World. Mollycoddled, with agents, advisors and a team around them, catering to their every whim and fancy.
Responsibility isn't something they have to take very often.

That will be his problem. He'll play for the clubs who can't afford the best.

Dzeko is undoubtably a good player & if he started for us every week, we would still be competitive as he'd score plenty, but I doubt we would have won the league, because his 'bad days' where he puts in no effort, would have cost us. He was more value coming off the bench & nicking important goals.

I don't see any reason why Dzeko can't be a similar powerful frontman to Negredo, & really lead our line with passion & agression as well as goals, other than he doesn't particularly want to. I think he could do it if he could be arsed. He does do it occasionally.

The way he plays mostly though he's more of a 7ft Gary Lineker without the pace.

I wish he would change his mind but it's unlikely he is going to, so he will always be 2nd/3rd choice at City. And as it appears he can't handle that, he will be gone soon.

If you are going to be a bit of a casual, 'do as I feel' player, at a really top club these days, in any position, you have to be Ronaldinho level. Spectacular, match winning genius who is impossible to drop, not just a goalscorer or a decent mid/2nd striker.

Elano & Robinho were the same; a bit more effort & less 'entitlement' & they would be good enough to play for us now.

I think here lies the problem or... where we probably agree but from different standpoints. You say that footballers consider themselves as a special breed, living in some sort of bubble removed from the real world. I'd say they are living in a bubble removed from the different world and that they are a special breed because their perspective on life is bizarrely skewed. But you can't go to them and say "Look here, here's John, he's driving a cab and makes so and so and he'd rather do this and that. Why are you complaining about the fact taht you're getting 20000 pounds less a week than your strike partner?". They won't relate to that. They have no idea what that means because to them that 20000 pounds difference is a huge insult. It's a malfeasance of the highest order to them. And so on with every other factor that "we" in the outside world outside of the stadium have to put up with. What makes great managers great nowadays is that they realize this and they treat their players accordingly. Pellegrini seems to be that type of manager. I hope it works out for him.

If you feel I was grossly out of order then I apologize. I think we agree though, albeit from different perspectives.

edit

I'd add that if we were to have a manager that'd be here for the long haul, then he'd probably be able to stem some of that ridiculous behavior. The skewed perspective on status and privileges get exacerbated (I've always wanted to use that word) by the fact that managers come and go and none of them can really make a lasting mark on the mental attitude of the players. IMO.
