corners

Is it just me or are we really poor at corners?.I don't know what the stats may tell us but in my opinion we rarely get the corner kick in to the danger areas. Do we practice them Silva Nasri Kolarov all take them. For some teams they are their best way of scoring. Anyone have a view about this? Might be one way we could try to overcome well organised teams with ten behind the ball and a game plan when we can't walk the ball in the net like Sunderland.

Inswinging.
We've done it (finally) few times this season with some nice outcomes yet we mostly insist on putting them outswinging. I really don't get that. There's statistically greater chance of scoring from inswinging corner. FACT.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Silva is awful at corners with 9 out of 10 not getting past the first man at the front post. Shocking

In the league winning season, goals from corners against the rags and liverpool from silva were vital.

But as mentioned above, inswinging all the way, cant remember last time we scored from outswinging corners, the corners on Sunday were pathetic.
derby day the scores were level,
then the goat was fed by neville,
silly boy should know for sure,
feed the goat and he will score!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In all seriousness, it is like in golf and the way you address the ball. Silva positions himself wrong , his angle is too acute. It's luck when sergio got onto his corner for a goal recently.

The angle must not be so acute.

This seasons efforts have been right up there with the Joey Barton classic vintage collection, circa 2005-2007.

Barton puts ball down, steps back and puts both hands in the air ... pauses, and then takes the kick ... and hits the first man, every fookin time.

Such a simple thing and we're so bad at it. Generally shocked that a player of Silva's calibre can't take a half decent corner.
It's not difficult or a lot to ask and you don't have to do anything special with it. Just beat the first man ffs.

We seem to keep trying the same corner, to the front post hoping someone gets a flick on, I think that's the main reason why they're not beating the first man. We did this under Mancini too with Vinnie usually being the man to try win the front post header, it now seems that responsibilty is Kolarov's.

We need to mix it up a bit.

Nasri has got to be the worst ever though. I can't recall him ever getting one past the first man.

As I have said previously, we were doing this much better early season. The ball was going into the right areas almost all the time.

At one home game we were talking about how almost every corner could have been a goal but for good defending/bad finishing etc.

I think the general fuckups which crept in have been causing us to take our eye off the ball re corners. But once (HOPEFULLY!) that calms down a bit, I recon the Count will get back on it. I think he values set pieces & we will improve all round in that area.

(We did score from a corner last week btw).

Sunderland defended them (& everything else) very well & are not being given any credit for it imo.

None of the 'give the lad a chance he's only...blah blah' so called 'world class' young defenders we have had here over the past few seasons, are as good as Wes Brown was at the same age & although he then went to shit, he was better on Sunday than any game Boateng, Savic, Nastasic, Rekik have ever played.

Some of the corners were ok, & well defended.

Are you kidding me? Nasri has been on a completely different (higher) level than Silva when it comes to corners this season
It had deffo been Silva who has kept hitting the first man this season

Some of Nasri's corners have been perfect.

I think Nasri is excellent at taking corners.

But you know lots about football, so I'll take your word on it.

I think the problem is when he tries to be clever. Only one in about 40 finds its precise target, but when it does, it goes in.

The rags just did it to Arsenal. They are better at it & it has often been the biggest difference to getting a goal in front in a game & a key area which has won them the league on several occasions imo.

The rags' crosses and corner taking over the years has been a huge reason for their success. Earlier this season they seemed to be trying to play more through the middle and it is a another factor in why they struggled.
