football gone mad

News that Roberto di Matteo is still collecting £130k a week in wages from Chelsea after his sacking got me thinking.
What other bonkers stories about players or clubs are there. I know we will have loads but does anyone know of ones that went under the radar or were glossed over?

People being signed on contracts for loads of money then sacked & effectively being paid for not doing anything at all. Everyone is at it, all the time, it's ridiculous.

the madness is that di matteo wasn't on a contract when he first took over at chelsea, he only signed a 'long term' deal part way through his tenure.

I find it mad when teams like Chelsea pay £m for a manager, sign him up to a long term deal for however long knowing that managers very rarely see out contracts then get rid a few months later.

That they're still paying him, and probably many others, seems pretty normal.

See your point but weren't Chelsea the luckiest team ever to win it. They were gash in the Prem. Finished 6th if i remember correctly. He was a disaster waiting to happen

There was that player at Chelsea... what's his name... the guy who made a fortune playing for the reserves a couple of years. Anyone remember?
"I used to be 6 foot 2 with curly hair, look what it's done to me"

"In my career so far it's the most important goal. You score the goal in the last minute to win the title. You're not sure if that's ever going to happen in your career again. I wish I could tell you how I did it but I can't. I thought for all the world that Mario was going to have a go himself but he just moved it on one more and it fell at my feet and I just thought: 'Hit the target, hit it as hard as you can and hit the target.' And it went in."
