I'm enjoying this aftermatch with Hoddle and Souness. Hoddle's chin has hit the floor and is trying to back Spurs and when Souness interjects, basically saying they are nowhere near they should be, Hoddle gives the old snap of 'Excuse me'. Hoddle looks like he wants to cry and I'm sick of his constant England references. Is he applying for the job again?

I know these are accepted as decent tackles but my point is that the ball is still going forward in front of Nasri and if the tackle hadn't have taken him out then he would still have a chance, surely?

Superlative day at the Etihad today . Some sublime football from us . Aguero is right on top of his game right now .....supreme world class ! Nasri was excellent again and so were Fernandinho and Zabs .

Two negatives ..... our defence Zabba apart just isnt right , come on Pellegrini sort this out and everything is possible.

I see what you're saying, but I still think it was a god tackle. Football is becoming less and less of a contact sport as it is, without cracking down on good sliding tackles.

What really pisses me off, though, is that Aguero got a freekick against him for a very similar against Verthongen in the end of the game. And when he spoke to Webb about is, Webb made a gesture that I interpreted as that he gave the free kick because Aguero slid through and took out the player afteer he got the ball, i.e. exactly what the Spurs player did!

I don't think it would be a free kick though anywhere else on the pitch though. If the player gets the ball first and then goes through the man a bit after so be it, seems to be the approach taken normally.

That's not the rule, though. If you take out the player (even if you get to the ball first) it's supposed to be a foul.

Watched game with Spuds fan (father in law). Needless to say one of us is well pleased and the other is not. Interestingly AVB is not popular with Spuds fans and this result can't help. The thought is he got lucky with Bale last year and is now being found out.

Though to be honest after 20 mins i was concerned. Our midfield was being bypassed somwhat and Spuds had 60% possesion, though thankfully they did fuck all with it. Barely a save to make for Pants 1st half. Once 2nd went in it was game over. Their heads went down and it would be a question of how many.

Webb was a disgrace. To say he is one of, if not our top official is embarrasing. How Sandro remained on field will never be known. Contrary to popular belief i do think he got the pen decision right but suspect it was luck rather than judgement in that he'd never have given it regardless of whether Vertonghen got ball.

How shit is Walker. If he is our 1st choice for England then Roy needs a serious word with himself. Also how much better is Neggers than Soldado. Another level. Thought Lescott imposed himself nicely and had good half. Baffling as to why he doesn't start imo.

All in all a good day at the office and i don't mind admitting my pre match forecast of 0-2 was way way out!! Would have been nice to see Guidetti for 20 mins but i'm sure his time will come. 34 goals already which is possibly more than West Ham will score all season. More of the same please

As Nooly points out above, one rule for one and all that. And yes, I know it's accepted but in reality it's just an easy cop-out for the ref.

Yes agree it was a good tackle. Unfortunately all too often in the 'modern game' (a rather annoying piece of terminology) a 'good challenge' is often penalised and you regularly hear pundits and commentators saying things like he got the ball first but also got some of the man' - well in my book that constitutes a good challenge in most instances. If you play the ball as a defender when sliding in you can't suddenly change your momentum, but that's what is being asked by refs in the 'modern game' meaning that as a defender you can't challenge.

There's a difference between a reckless challenge and a well timed challenge, both could see the player being challenged on his arse. Refs then have to make a decision, if they haven't seen it clearly and the player being challenged yelps out and/or takes a couple of tumbles then the outcome is more often than not the same - a free kick in favour of the player being challenged.

You only have to look at Wes Brown's red card yesterday to understand how crazy this part of the game has now become.

I like that a goal after fourteen seconds pretty much stops that annoying slow spuds go marching in song.

I think the issue is the inconsistency here. I do think it's a good tackle. As Spurge said, if a defender slides and gets the ball first, they can't suddenly change their momentum.
However, if that was Rags, or Chelsea it would have been given no doubt.

Maybe it's just me but I thought slide tackling from behind was outlawed a good few years back. Apparently it's dangerous, if thats the case it makes no fucking difference if the player wins the ball or not.

Agree. I hate that version and can't understand why some other clubs copy it.

Chaz and Dave will no doubt bring out their version soon.

You are absolutely 100% right. The rule that was brought in as that there is any challenge from behind was outlawed, irrespective of whether the ball is touched first.

Unless this rule has since been changed, then it was the cherry on the cheating webb cake that we witnessed today.

Phips you smug fuck, you don't understand the game of football so have a bit of respect when you are addressing proper city fans.

Doesn't it feel nice knowing the Rags and Spuds fans are crying themselves to sleep. In fact, I've not stopped smiling since the end of todays games.

Absolutely fantastic result today!! And being so close to the spurs fans as to be able to see the tears as we tore them apart was good stuff indeed, made them look like a bad joke. Rags letting the 3 points (which weren't rightfully theirs) slip was icing on the cake on the way home. But seriously city, how can we be so dominating at home and not be able to replicate the quality away? Thinking it's just a short matter of time before we sort it out but the inconsistency has to stop soon. Well done to the boys though outstanding performance.
