What is it with this thing where a player doesn't celebrate a goal against a former team.
When a player for my team scores i want to see them celebrate. Like Tevez v rags in league cup. Perhaps not to the degree of Adebayor v Arsenal but nontheless i want to see them cheer. They left their previous club for whatever reason and they are now part of my club. When they score i want to see it matters to them, that they are part of my club. I dont give a fuck if it offends the opposition. Who cares. We are paying his wages now. Equally if a former player scores v us, Sturridge maybe, and he celebrates in front of the Kop fair play and good luck to him. He isnt part of my club anymore

As long as the celebration isn't a 'fuck you' eg Adebayor ,to the other club it's absolutely fine.

If the fans give player shit when he leaves (like Arse fans & Ade or Villans & Barry) the player has all the right to give it back to them.

Apart from that I don't really care. If a player doesn't celebrate to respect the old club/fans that's fine by me but I don't mind "normal" celebrations either

I noticed that with Aaron Ramsay vs. Cardiff yesterday. It seemed a bit too phony imo with his non-celebratory body language which seemed even more odd when his teammates ran up to congratulate him. I don't recall RVP ever behaving like that since moving to the Swamp, he just didn't give two hoots, even romantically diving into Taggart's arms a couple of times. I think the right thing would be to celebrate, look happy, but not in such a way as if it seems one is rubbing the former club's noses in it.

If it's a goal in the last game of the season that sends their old club down then I can understand mixed feelings, but most players admit that it's actually a big thing to score against an old club. Even if they have positive feelings they often say they want to go back and show how well you're doing. Not celebrating is just an affectation, but it's becoming so common that players will be under more pressure to not celebrate, and we all know that there are groups of fans who are desperate to be offended these days.

Apparantly Graham scored his 1st for 11 months yet didn't celebrate. Perry Groves on BT sport couldn't believe it. Lack of respect for current club and team mates

I have respect for Dunnie Monster and Sturridge for the way they didn't rub our noses in it.

I remember Dickov celebrating like he had won a cup when he scored for Leicester against us, it really annoyed me. I am all for ex-players showing the fans respect by not rubbing their noses in it.

If my old brain remembers correctly he celebrated because his little lad who was/is a City fan was sat in the crowd right in front of him and Dickov's celebration was towards his son only, although understandably a lot of Blues did not know that at the time. I am pretty sure that he publicly state this too.

Loads of City fans went mental when Dickov did the old knee slid so players are dammed if they do and dammed if they don’t. It doesn’t bother me and find it a sign of respect. Could people really imagine someone like SWP celebrating a goal he scored against us??

My most succesfull season of celebrations when i was young and not old and fat like now was 3 bookings and fines off the FA for over celebrating.

It does piss me off a little when a player celebrates against a former club but hey emotions run high and scoring goals is a beautiful thing i even feel like celebrating at 7 a side so i can only imagine how it must feel to bang the winner in front of thousands.
