So, when do the media start talkng about 'The worst title defence, ever!'?

What's that, 9 points behind after a 3rd of the eason has gone. Surely there must be grumblings already, especially after Spurs got tonked by the one and only Manchester club the week before?

I'm not saying they'll drop like a brick but it is interesting how the media strated on us very early yet give the Rags and Moyes lots of slack.

Let's look at it another way. AVB has been getting loads of stick since the 6-0 and it was building before that yet Moyes has been backed by the same journo's even though he's only 1 point and 1 place better off. We also spanked the Rags by a decent margin yet I didn't hear anything to suggest Moyes has to go. He's also got a squad that is relatively settled and one that cost far more than what Spurs have paid.

What's the difference, anybody guess?

As someone stated earlier the headlines were saying Utd got a good point at the spuds, if that was us we would have dropped 2 points.

Good results in the main this weekend. Arsenal & Chelsea losing points would have been nice but you can't have everything. Would have taken 3rd place on Saturday morning so cab't grumble. Rags Dippers Spuds & Saints dropping points favourable. A broken leg for Shrek aside, not bad at all

Sturridge out for 8 weeks, as much as this will hurt Liverpool I don't like to see English lads injured in a WC year.

or look at it another way he gets a Winter break so should be amazing come the WC - least that's one of the theories banded around by those who claim to know why England don't succeed

England don't succeed because we're not good enough.

I think it comes down to the popularity of the English league that has hurt it, foreign influx has seen not enough English players playing regularly for top teams.

Great news that Sturridge is injured imo. (Has always tended to disappear for long stretches, either due to injury or loss of form).

The way we defend, he is one of the most likely players to exploit our lack of pace/effort when caught on the counter.
We are potentially up against it a bit with teams like Arsenal & Liverpool to come & have a serious chance of dropping points in one or both of those games, as both always raise their game v City. With our untrustworthy away form, that could push us back a few places. Any edge we can get, at this point, I will take.

A couple of dodgy home results could leave us off the pace. I just want to keep us in touching distance of the top, for when Arsenal's arse goes. Don't want to leave those rag fucks or Chelsea with an easy run to hoover up the title at the death.

Nasty little run of games coming up & any advantage we can get is greatly welcomed by me.

I disagree. It comes down to shit coaching at youth levels. If we trained the players to play in a system that works from a young age, we'd compete. England are dinosaurs at international level now. If they were taught properly and had the talent of their foreign counterparts they'd get picked and we'd stop sucking at every international tournament.

It is gradually being put right though.

City's younger English/Irish etc kids, for example, play quite a lot like the Spaniards/French/Belgians etc next to them.

My problem with the 'influx of foreign players' theory is that it should push those English players who ARE able to command a regular place in a Premier League side to new heights, given the greater quality of competition for places.

It's got to be the coaching. All kids need to be taught first and foremost to be comfortable on the ball. What we've had a tendency to do over here is to size kids up and then stick them in a position relative to their size and physical attributes.

Big kid - CB
Quick kid - Wing

If you look at how sides like Spain, Chile and Japan play, there's a uniformity to their game. Look at how Bayern played when they came to City, with their back four being as comfortable in possession as the front six.

Over here we're obsessed with talismen and with playing through the best player. The only thing a young defender ever learns is 'If in doubt, twat it out'. Completely counterproductive. Kids shouldn't even be assigned positions. They should be playing with smaller balls on tiny pitches until the age of 12/13 at the very least.
