World cup draw

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

World cup draw

Postby Dwaring » Fri Dec 06, 2013 12:37 pm

Just thought it would be interesting to see how many different nationalities we have on the blog with a team in the World Cup and what your thoughts are on the field. Pots are as follows:

Pot 1 includes Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay, Spain, Germany, Belgium and Switzerland.

The countries in Pot 2 are Algeria, Cameroon, Chile, Ivory Coast, Ecuador, Ghana and Nigeria.

Pot 3 is Australia, Costa Rica, Honduras, Iran, Japan, Korea Republic, Mexico, USA.

In Pot 4 Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, England, France, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Russia.

I for one am dreaming of watching Clint Dempsey raise the cup over his head this summer in brazil even if it is quite a lofty dream. USA USA USA! I truly believe the United States are a scary team because they understand they're not going to win playing pretty and have to grind out wins. Hoping for the Swiss, Ghana, and Bosnia. Probably get spain, Ivory Coast and Italy.

As for the field I think it is quite strong for a World Cup. As usual all the teams from Europe and South America are too notch but what I think really sets this one apart is the strength of the other continents. All the groups will have 2 very strong teams from pot 1 and 4. There also has the potential to be 2 or 3 groups of death, depending on the team from pot 4 that moves to pot 2.

BRING ON BRAZIL 2014.

I really think Bosnia are capable of beating all the non European or South American teams on their day, although have worries about Japan and Mexico.

Ideal draw would be Switzerland, Cameroon, Iran, and being based in Sao Paolo or Salvador. Nightmare would be going up into Pot 2 and drawing Argentina, Mexico & Portugal and being based in some far-flung location.

I will be Dutch next summer. I really don't think "we" will have a good tournament, though. The squad is mediocre, especially the defense.

I'm still waiting to see the first 'World Cup Winners 2014' tattoo appear in the news over here. Unfortunately, though, in some things Bosnians maintain a considerably better sense of perspective than Brits.

England also understand they're not going to win the competition by playing pretty, because we're totally incapable of playing in such a way. We'll also be grinding out results but, in England's case, these "results" will be defeats.

It would be better for all if we were to withdraw from the tournament now and the place we vacate could be then taken by a decent side.

Thanks. I suppose we can skip the first half hour or so, given that it's always some boring footage of Eusebio set to moving music.

It'll be Madiba not Eusabio you hard hearted bastard

then, one of the first things they're going to do is move a team from Pot 4 to pot 2 and not tell us who it is.

I'll just keep this tab open, pin my hopes on AG7 watching the whole thing and have a cursory glance every five minutes.
