CL Draw : Round of 16

Round of 16 Draw Details

The draw for the Round of 16 will take place this
Monday, 16 December 2013 at 12:00pm CET (11:00am UK Time)

TV Coverage in UK

The draw will be live on Sky Sports News HD (Sky 405) and Sky Sports News (Sky 436) from 11:00am (which'll include an hour of build-up etc.) ... and then at the actual draw time from 12:00pm, also on British EuroSport HD (Sky 410) and British EuroSport (Sky 412).

This will be followed by the Europa League draw straight after, where Spurs are no longer the tournament favorites after the likes of Juventus, Napoli, Benfica, Ajax and Porto have all fallen into it from CL. Uwe's Wigan and Swansea still haven't qualified and will know after their games tonight.

Matchdays

The dates for the Round of 16 ties are 18–19 and 25–26 February 2014 for first leg and 11–12 and 18–19 March 2014 for the second leg.

The seeded teams also get the advantage of hosting the second leg at home. The unseeded teams (including us) will host the first leg at home and then will have to play the second leg away.

Draw Pots

The following are the two pots; basically all group winners are SEEDED teams and all group runners-up are UNSEEDED. One team from seeded will be picked against a team from unseeded. You can't draw the other team from your own group or from your own country in this round. For next rounds (QFs and SFs) it will be free for all in the draw.

Seeded Teams (Group Winners)

Manchester United
Real Madrid
Paris Saint-Germain
Bayern Munich
Chelsea
Borussia Dortmund
Atlético Madrid
Barcelona

Unseeded (Group Runners-up)

Bayer Leverkusen
Galatasaray
Olympiacos
Manchester City
Schalke 04
Arsenal
Zenit Saint Petersburg
AC Milan

Manchester City

We can draw one of the following five for the round of 16.

Real Madrid
Paris Saint-Germain
Borussia Dortmund
Atlético Madrid
Barcelona

Our first leg tie will be a home game at Etihad, which will be (if played on 18/19 Feb) wedged between Sunderland (H) and Stoke (H) ... but if drawn for the 25/26 Feb, then it will be after the Stoke (H) game and just before the Away Derby.

Similarly the crucial away tie (second leg) will be either on 11/12 Mar, which falls in between Villa (H) and Hull (A), or if played on 18/19 Mar, then in between Hull (A) and Fulham (H).

This above depends on whom you draw as the winners of the groups dictates this as well. Groups A-D winners play on the first dates and of the Groups E-H will play on the second dates. So basically if we draw Real Madrid or PSG then we are playing on the first dates (easier for us, related to other fixtures). And if we draw Dortmund, Atletico or Barca, then we will be playing on the second dates, in which only the home leg is right before the Scum (A) game. We are pretty lucky I guess for the away leg dates though, in either case.

Hopefully this answers everything about the draw and next ties in once place!

Isn't the away derby threatened by the League cup final? Could be an away match at Barcelona followed by a cup final!

I don't particularly care about how far we go in this tournament, so I'm hoping for Barca :)

PSG represents the best option I think. Short trip, easy travel for away fans within a crowded schedule, and a chance to progress too.

Athletico wouldn't be the worst draw, given our B team would have won the CL group they were in. Dortmund would be acceptable as it would be a chance to pay them back. Barca or Real, whilst entertaining in terms of an occasion, would likely mean a swift exit.

For me, real are the ones to avoid.

Obviously Barca wont be a push over but I would prefare to face them as opposed to Real if it was a choice of the two.

We beat Bayern, whom play similar to Barcelona, seeing as he was their coach, so if we can beat Bayern, we can beat Barcelona. Chelsea managed it by defending with 10 man, we beat Bayern by passing the ball around and making them chase, or make mistakes passing the ball.

So, Barcelona would be a fantastic challenge, but seeing as we're entering new territory, it might be best to start with something like PSG first. Wouldn't fancy either of the Madrid teams right now, although Atletico certainly is the lighter of the bunch. Dortmund would be good for payback as well.

I have a sneaky gut feeling that we will get Real Madrid (and get through) and then draw Galatasaray in the next round and face Mancini. Weird things happen like that in football, might even have a cheeky bet on it actually

Anyone but Madrid for me tbh although i'm pretty sure that we can beat ANY of them, or LOSE to any of them quite handily. Should be fun.

cheers

All great sides on their day and all beatable. Lets play the best, beat them at home and have a nail biter for 2nd leg and hopefully go through. Bring it on. Being in Champs league knockout stages is what club aspires to and playing the Barcas and the Madrids and the Bayerns et all is what its all about. Lets concentrate on Prem & domestic cups till Feb and concern ourselves with Europe then.

Pedro Rodriguez says he hopes Barcelona are not drawn against either Arsenal or Manchester City in Monday’s Champions League last 16 draw.

Barca secured top spot in their Champions League group by routing Celtic 6-1 on Wednesday night at the Camp Nou, and are now set to play a second-placed finisher which could be either Arsenal, City or Bayer Leverkusen, Schalke, Galatasaray or Zenit St Petersburg.

The Spain international winger was clear that he would prefer to avoid the English clubs at this stage.

"It would be good to avoid Arsenal and Manchester City," said Pedro, who scored his team’s second goal against the Scottish champions, ending the match as a contest well before half-time.

Psg or Dortmund i think we can take them . Dortmund is good but not in form like last two season , PSG have same problem like us they have bad spell from time to time and play in poor league . Spain teams i would not like , CR is in insane form and Bale is also back in it , Atletico look great and Uefalona is we against refs and them but nevermind them they will get AC and play shite game in Milan then get three penno in Barcelona.
You can't be a real country unless you have a beer and an airline. It helps if you have some kind of a football team, or some nuclear weapons, but at the very least you need a beer.

Honestly that wasn't my meaning, I think City are good enough to win the whole thing. I think we can beat Barca too over 2 legs.

It might not be odds on but I think the team is completely capable.

But I genuinely just have no regard for the CL, I want us qualified for it because its a money spinner and participation is needed in order to remain competitive in the PL, but I really don't care much about how we actually do. I mean, sure, I want us to win every game we play, but its just not very important to me. I'd take winning the premiership once over winning the CL 10 times.

So, as long as we are in the CL, I want to see us up against the very best. I'd love seeing us go up against Messi for example. If we got Atletico or PSG in this round I'm not sure I'd bother watching the game (which in my defense, does get played about 4am my time).

I'm not trying to make an argument to convince anyone of anything, and I don't have any problem with anyone who values the CL far more highly than I do. Its just how I feel.
