Firstly, I am a really big fan of Richards', Secondly it's brilliant that he's donating money to charity.

But something about the way he's gone about this on Twitter doesn't sit right with me. I can't quite put my finger on it but having the charities vying to convince him to part with his money on a public forum might be what's doing it.

Fair play charity is always great but if it was a rag we'd be saying it wasnt a great deal. Id rather just not hear about these donations considering how much they earn.
However I thought it was particularly nice that Beckham donated his full earnings from PSG to a local charity.

I know what you mean. It was £20k (before ending as 3x£7k) and deciding who to give it to makes sense, but perhaps not so publicly. But then if he hadn't, maybe he wouldn't have picked smaller charities he knew nothing about...

Maybe he's raising the publicity of the charities too, it really is difficult to criticise him here without sounding like a twat.

I just think he could've gone about it a little better.

Agreed, but the money he donated to Millies Trust is going to do so much for them. The equipment they use doesnt come cheap and they provide free courses to the general public.

And the point regarding a smaller charity is a fair one. He could have given money to a charity such as Macmillan or Cancer Research, which whilst both of these charities do fantastic work, they are very publicly known and receive a large amounts of support.

None the less, its a wonderful thing he has done. What is a relatively small amount to him will be a huge boost to these charities.
"If we fire our manager after just one bad season - We'll become Chelsea"
"If we think we can fix the problem by buying expensive players - We'll become City"
"If we remember the good times to entertain us during the bad times - We'll become Liverpool"

So, keep calm and do it the United way

"We invest in young players, That is what we are good at — we’re not like other clubs who can spend fortunes on proven goods. We know that Manchester City are going to pay stupid money, pay silly salaries and all that. We can’t do anything about it. We concentrate on what we can do to try to bring players in for the right reasons. We invest in those who will be with the club for a long time, who will create the character of the club, who will create excitement for our fans. We are very proud of that and we are going to continue that way" - Alex Ferguson 14th May 2012

its a difficult balance to get right
it's important that they raise the profile of their charity without it being a bit look at me givin my cash to charidee mate
