can we get rid of the 6 yard box?

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

can we get rid of the 6 yard box?

Postby Wonderwall » Fri Dec 13, 2013 7:46 am

As far as I can see it only serves a purpose for goal kicks. Junior football has eliminated them (up to u14) with goalkicks taken from anywhere in the 18yd box.

I dont see the point in them anymore.

Get rid of them I say.

You can't take indirect freekicks in that area. Getting rid of that rule would lead into some pretty interesting situations combined with backpass rule.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

having played in goal a few times, i always used the 6 yard box to keep my bearings...
i was never one for marking the goal posts positions on the lines but i did find it useful when i was off my line...
keep it i say

The wall has to be so far back anyway, so they would never be allowed in the 6 yd box. this is the minimum requirement if there is a free kick in the box if memory serves me right.

I dont see why there isn't a Goal kick spot, just like the penalty spot... hey why not ;-)

The reason why there isn't a goal kick spot , is because you are allowed to place the ball anywhere in the six yard box for a goal kick.

Can you imagine how much timewasting Tim Howard would make if he was allowed to amble around the entire Penalty area, instead of only the six yard box, to take a goalkick ?

If there was just one goal kick spot he'd have no option but to kick it from there. Sounds like a great idea. I suppose though they would need two, one for lefties as well as righties, so it might not work too well. After all, you never really see them taking the kick from the middle of the area do you?

He'd still spend all day looking for it. Furthermore what happens when the spot becomes mud and slush? Do we need an official to come on and mark a new one ? You don't have to put the ball on the line , to take a goal kick . It can take place fron behind the line. A foot or two makes no difference when Joe always kicks the ball into touch anyway :-)

First Garcia, now the six yard box.

Both occupy an area, generally unnoticed, but are still getting shit for it.

Never happy.

No reason to get rid of it and as someone else mentioned it helps a goalkeeper with his bearings.
Plus it looks cool.
