Yet another wonder kid

I'm getting a bit numb to these things now, but we'll see. For just one to come through would be nice.

Nigeria wonderkid Kelechi Iheanacho is set to jet into England to seal a deal with Manchester City, according to reports.

The 17-year-old striker, who has also been linked with Manchester United and Arsenal, was preparing for next month's African Nations Championship but has reportedly left the training camp to conclude a deal with City.

Coach Stephen Keshi told the Nigeria Guardian: "Initially a young man came declaring that he was the agent of Iheanacho, but I declined to deal with him until I hear from the family because the boy is still a minor.

“It was soon after my rejection that I got a call from his father who told me that they have got a travel visa to the United Kingdom and that I should oblige him with his son’s release. I did and told the young man to go and do the nation proud at whichever club he finally chooses to settle down with."

Iheanacho was named player of the tournament at last summer's Under-17 World Cup, scoring six goals, including one in the 3-0 win over Mexico in the final, as Nigeria lifted the trophy.

If I earned a pound every time some youngster was dubbed as the next wonderkid, Messi, Ronaldo, Aguero, Vieira, <insert random footballer name here>, I would a billionaire... these comparisons really annoy me mainly because in 99% of the time they are absolute bollocks and whoever is being compared to those world class players never even remotely lives up to the hype.

That 17-year old left back we have is supposed to be awesome isn't isn't he? Might make the first team (in the words of John Wayne in 'She Wore a Yellow Ribbon') in 7 or 8 years!

That story makes it sound like we were trying to abduct the kid beore getting permission from his family. Who in their right mind would just turn up without the family and try to take him away without any prior consent?

The club over the way perfected the technique.

Initially a young man came declaring that he was the agent of Iheanacho

This is what i was getting at every single kid seems to be represented by some cretin these days and in this case the cretin had naff all to do with the kid.
When you hear 'Manchester City are interested in 12 year old striker his agent .................. confirms'

Its bonkers.

Very true mate. It makes you wonder if he was actually the lads agent before he went back to speak to the family.

Just doesn't sit right for me but I suppose the family will be happy that they'll get a few quid out of it.

I think that what it means is, that his agent turned up saying he was taking the kid to the UK, the bloke wasn't convinced it was actually the kid's agent so refused to let him go, then the kid's Dad phoned up & confirmed it was kosher, so he was allowed to leave.

That's all.

apparently the reason he was in Nigeria was that he was training with the national team, and has a shot to be in Brazil this summer - not bad for a 17 year old.

You should really read it again. The quotes from the Nigerian national team manager. Who just wanted confirmation from the family that the guy really was his agent. Which he got from the father. Also Africa is a lot different than what most of you are probably use to when it comes to youth players leaving Africa. I will have to find the name of it but there is a great documentary about it. Sheds a lot of light on how shady and sad it is what happens to some of these kids.

How can he prove he is the world's best young player when the referees don't give him any protection?
