Who would you play?

Postby Florida Blue » Tue Dec 17, 2013 10:45 pm

Ok Mad Zab is clearly going to miss the holiday matches, Richards as well. Who would you play at RB?

Boyata? Demichelis? Milner? Rodwell? Garcia? Clichy?

None of them are "naturally" rightbacks, at least Clichy plays on the outside, and he is a natural right player.

I would like to try Milner, but I think the prudent choice is Clichy with Kolarov on the left, or leave Boyata there, at least for the match this weekend.

You know NT, it was so bad under Mancini, I think I ruled it out of my mind.

But that leaves more options.

I'd play Jimmy at right back on Saturday to give him the feel for that position. In the tougher games we will need clichy at left back in my opinion.

This could really fuck us over. We rely a lot on our full backs stretching the opposition and being the different in and around the box.

The whole 'Clichy is naturally right footed!' is a properly naff one. He may technically be just that, but he's absolutely woeful at using through a life time of playing on the left so that's a no go for me as he'll look lost.

The obvious option for me is Milner but i don't actually think he'll do that well there.

Milner is a cracking shout, he deserves a run in the team.

It's a tough one - Milner is the best option he has the energy to get up and down like zabba.

The other angle on this is Richards future. He's injured so often that regrettably he doesn't provide adequate cover at right back. Boyata I don't think will get up and down like Zabba or Richards can which is clearly what Pellers wants from his full backs.

So I think we need to look for a suitable right back in the January window.

milner would put the effort in 100%, he's not a RB however, and clever attacking players could probably take advantage of that. It'd be up to jimmy to make up for it with grit and determination. I would not be worried having him there, and if he's not going to start in attack, probably is the best shout.

Boyata could be in with a shout after he grew into the game today ... he does look like a red card tackle waiting to happen at any moment though, which could be minimized out on the flank, or it could be deadly.

if I had to choose now, I'd go with Milner, though feel a bit guilty about it as it's so far out of position for him.

Boyata as a sub.

I think you give the nod to Boyata this weekend and see how he fairs. If we wavers at all we will know that Milner is the man for the bigger match on Boxing Day.
