Semi Finals Draw | CapitalOne Cup

Postby AG7 » Wed Dec 18, 2013 10:07 am

So great game last night ... another away win, and another step closer to some silverware ...

The semi finals draw is tonight at 9:30pm, right after the Scum game, which is being shown on TV (Sky Sports).

The semis in the League Cup are two-legged affairs and the dates for those (now that we are in it) are:

First Leg: 7/8 Jan
This for us is wedged between the FA Cup 3rd round tie (Blackburn Away) and Newcastle Away.

Second Leg: 21/22 Jan
This one is after Cardiff at home and FA Cup 4th round tie (which we should be in by then).

So not only we won last night, Sunderland did us a huge favor (as far as this competition is concerned) by knocking out Chelsea in the other quarter final ...

Right so two more quarter finals left (to be played this evening), which are the Rags away at Stoke and West Ham visiting the White Hart Lane.

Ideally, this is what I want ... Scum and West Ham to win tonight, then us drawing them rotten lot in the semi final (so we can thrash them over two legs, there is no way in hell they are winning over two legs in current form) and on the other side West Ham and Sunderland can play out each other and then either can meet us in the final for a nice easy day out at Wembley. (I know, I know we said that for Wigan in FA Cup final last year as well, but well ... Pelligrini has shown with his team selection last night that he's taking anyone and everyone seriously here on).

The FINAL (should we reach) of this competition is scheduled for Sunday 2nd March at Wembley. This will throw so much around it's not even funny. The away derby is currently scheduled for March 1 (Saturday), but that when TV picks up, was always going to be on TV so would have been either Sunday 2nd or Monday 3rd anyway ... so that will need to be moved completely to a different weekend as I just don't see the Manchester derby being played mid-week. What complicates this further is that the next weekend 8th March is our scheduled game (Villa away) but is also the date of FA Cup 6th round (QF) so hoping we'll still be in that competition, that Villa game would need to be rescheduled as well ... oh, and did I not mention England has a mid-week friendly arranged with Denmark on 5th March (don't ask me why as it isn't even a FIB) ... and yes all this is in the lead up to our first home leg Barcelona game on 12th March.

Yes, sorry, my bad ... that 12th March is our second away leg game (which will be as crucial nonetheless), even with a 3 goal advantage, going to Camp Nou in the second leg would be a daunting task ...

Although we should be firm favourites these days I'm fed up playing Scum in semis now.

Firstly they should lose at Stoke and secondly if they do scrape through I'd rather play Stoke or Sunderland. Or West Ham.

If the worst comes to the worst at least we'd have that all-Manchester final.

Quite why anyone would want to draw Utd is beyond me. The last thing we need is 2 titanic derby games in January when injuries start to bite and fixtures are piling up.

Sunderland please and the most important thing is to be drawn away in this round so the 2nd leg is at our place

I'd sooner face them over 2 legs and batter them than at Wembley where anything can happen

The Derby move will be a pain as we WILL get to the final, there is no weekend available to reschedule it, so we will need to squeeze it in when we have a midweek Tues/Weds free.

This is going to cost me an arm and a leg as I will be going to Barca away but dont want to miss the final.....damn you City, why are you so bloody good ;-)

It would be a good game to put that one to bed and batter them away and then play the under 21's at home and still batter them, 6 nil.
