My City nominee would be Dave Watson, the epitomy of the old fashioned towering centre half.

Peter Doherty (AGAIG) wrote:Dave headed the ball harder than anyone I've ever seen. I remember one of his headers from a corner against Ipswich which hit the back of the net like a volley. But I'd have to go with Denis Law, probably because his headers tended to end in the net. I remember a game he played for us when he dived down to head the ball up into the corner of the net from about 12 yards. Best headed goal I've ever seen.

Was he that good with his head or did he just time his runs really well? I'd say the latter.

Too right. Big Dave.
I remember a headed clearance of his going to the half way line, setting up an attack. Possibly for England. Or is my memory playing tricks?

I remember him heading a ball from his own side of the half-way line into the oppositions box for England!

Thank you to whoever posted Dave Watson's Meat Header. Takes me back to sitting on the wall at the bottom of the Kippax. Happy days.
