So, I was checking some players out on fookin youtube, specially ones we might take a look at as a club, in need of another defensive mf, like fernandinho.
The one I liked the most is Pogba, but Fernando from Porto is pretty good imho...plus, he is out of contract in the summer, plus his nickname is Octopus which makes this a no brainer ;)

Nemanja Matic is an option as well, but I'd rather pass on that one.
He's too hotheaded, has a history of training bustups me thinks, and always a red card in him.

But, while looking at Fernando, by a mistake I saw a clip about this other fella from Porto, Juan Fernando Quintero, and he is a 20 year old colombian, just signed for Porto this summer, played in Italy before that.
He seems really creative, likes to drible, has an eye for a killer pass and a powerfull shot on him as well, some great free kicks from long range.

Has anyone watched him this season, more closely?

Here's one of the yt vids

Why do people want a winger? Nasri, Silva, Navas and Milner is enough.

A class Center half.

A class Left back, starting to doubt Clichy and Kolarov is not good enough for us.

A new goalie to give Hart more competition maybe.

And swap Dzeko for a better striker.

The thank you and goodbye: Lescott, Kolarov, Garcia, Dzeko. (and if we have a bid for Rodwell, why not..)

neither silva, nasri or milner are traditional out and out wingers. I mean a pace to burn, hugs the touchline type player. I'd like to see a younger navas type player for the left wing who accepts he won't start every game yet. Like a good version of Scott Sinclair. Navas gives us something very different with his pace and crossing ability and I don't think any other player in our squad could have scored that goal he did at Fulham, electric pace. If he gets injured it would be nice to have another pacy winger who can stretch teams and give us another option.

That's quite ruthless and hard-hearted.....but totally understandable.

I'm with you on this one, Doomie.

IMO it is unlikely we will sign anyone in the window unless there is a really outstanding opportunity or need to cover for injury (RB?)

More likely Jovetic, Richards or Rodwell. If those guys had been available for an extra ten games each this season I bet we would be top now.

I thought City would go for a top class centre back in January but that would probably mean selling Dzeko. With Joveti 'a endless injuries and Aguero out there's no chance of Dzeko going this season. One or two clubs will sniff round Micah and Lescott but we'd need replacements and that's not easy mid season. I wouldn't be surprised if nothing much happens in January.

In an ideal world in the close season I think we do need a top class centre back to partner Kompany and a really good left back who can defend as well as overlap. Then some cover at defensive midfield. I'd ship out Garcia and Clichy who's a shadow of his former self and Lescott's out of contract isn't he? Micah may also go in the close season.

In January, I would love us to get someone who could not only play alongside Negredo, but could also partner Sergio and, if ever we felt so inclined and opted for a 4-3-3 formation, someone who could slot in and complement the other two in such a system.

Only trouble is, I keep coming back to Cavani, which is no viable solution at all.

Maybe it s the best chance to take money for Dzeko , close for what we pay with this Valencia new boss( some kind new billioner) name Dzeko first target and Inter manager also.I would like Barry back and Garcia send off but Pelle'r like him for some reason and we are never get close to 17 mill we gave for him.
You can't be a real country unless you have a beer and an airline. It helps if you have some kind of a football team, or some nuclear weapons, but at the very least you need a beer.

If this Valencia thing is legit id sell Dzeko but we'd need a replacement.

And who would we get that is eligible for champions league football, fit into the squad, be happy to play as backup to Negrado (or be flexible enough in playing style to also compliment Negrado or Kun) and be accustomed to the premier league? Lets face it in current form, although you'd want that player to be pushing Negrado and Kun for a start, it aint going to happen.

All reasons I cant see Dzeko leaving in Jan to be fair as its a tall ask mid season to get an adequate replacement and we'd lose out more than the transfer fee.

It's for exactly these reasons that I don't see us doing much in January unless a major injury or fantastic opportunity occurs.

I'm saving my energy for laughing at the rags transfer attempts.

Not a big fan of bringing players in January unless they are on loan. You nearly always end up overspending.
I think Ted said a while back, that making shrewd signings in January can be really clever rather than looking for big money signings.
Think Arsenal bringing Henry back on loan, Rags with Larsonn, Villa with Keane. Just a quick term loan deal to give the team a little extra.

We 'may' get something through in defence or in the mould of a defensive midfielder (as alluded to in Teds thread) but nothing further. Unless Jovetic's injuries are seen by Pellers as too much of a risk to our attacking cover we may see someone brought in but certainly nobody leaving.
