December 2013 - An Impressive Display

Postby Beefymcfc » Mon Dec 30, 2013 11:49 am

Well, what a month it was. 8 wins and a draw saw us nearly top both PL and CL table this month (we were there for a day though in the league), seen us through to a semi-final and showed 2 of our league contenders what it's like to face the real deal when it comes to top of the table clashes.

December

1st City 3-0 Swansea
4th Brom 2-3 City
7th Southampton 1-1 City
10th Munich 2-3 City
14th City 6-3 Arsenal
17th Leicester 1-3 City
21st Fulham 2-4 City
26th City 2-1 Liverpool
28th City 1-0 Palace

We've also hit the top in the form table with 5 wins and 1 draw giving us impressive figures. Away from home we've now hit some form and although many will still use this to somehow detract from our games we all know that it's all coming together nicely.

This month has probably been the highlight of the year, under very difficult circumstances. Beating Munich in their back yard is no easy feat and the spanking of Arsenal had us all singing in the streets but what I've enjoyed the most is that everytime we've gone behind we've rolled up our sleeves and turned it around. We've also shown that even if teams come back at us then we've got the mental fortitude to step-it up a gear and not crumble under the pressure. Now that's the sign of a winning team - never give up.

Massive praise to Pellers and the Boys for bringing such good results and so much entertainment to all the fans in a very difficult month. Playing every 3 days on average and to come away with that tally is mightily impressive. Well done Boys.

What's your favourite moment of December, or even the season so far?

So many highlights with the superb football we have played so I will pick the final whistle blowing in the Liverpool game.Such an important win against a very good side.We hadn't played that well but held onto a lead. Closing games out is an important quality in top sides and we have just done it twice in a row.

Interesting when thinking about highlights.Has anyone listened to Vieira's interview on the season so far? He cites the defeat of the under 21's by Spurs 6.3 as a major highlight for him.Well worth a listen. All about how it showed the team how hard the have to work to be successful and results since then seem to suggest they have taken it all in.

Arsenal and Liverpool games were both wonderful games and I thoroughly enjoyed them both.
Nice aswell to see our away form is picking up.
Swansea on New Years Day is a huge game imo and if we can win this, we'll bury the hatchet with our away form in the league for good imo.
Tough place to go and judging by our last two games there and the way Swansea played at our place a few weeks ago it won't be easy by any means.

Really looking forward to it.

Looks like January's going to be a busy month again with 7 games in total, 5 away and only 2 home. In the league we've got Swansea, Toon and Spurs away and only Cardiff at home.

Another difficult month with a game every 4 days on average.

This is why it's so important to have a decent squad and I think ours is the best in the league.

What's amazed me is how quickly things can change this season. Less then a week ago Liverpool were top of the league, now they're 5th and suddenly people, even their own fans are counting them out of the title race.
A couple of good or bad results in quick succession can alter the table significantly and that's very unusual given we are now half way through.

Swansea, Toon and Spurs are tough away games and. Not that any away game is a given.
If we can win a couple of those at least I'll start to feel very confident of our chances this season.
