Who has the best

Postby Douglas Higginbottom » Mon Dec 30, 2013 6:27 pm

Goalkeeper, Defence,Midfield and striking options of the top premier league sides?

Keeper. I actually don't think there is better than Joe Hart. Cech might be on a par but they all seem to have made poor mistakes in recent times there might not be stand out option.

Defence. Not City for sure.Maybe Chelsea or even Everton when they are at full strength. But I will go for Chelsea.3 good enough centre backs,3 good full backs and if you add the holding midfield player into the mix and then are probably the best. You can also add the manager and his mentality.

Midfield. A few teams with real strength here in Chelsea,Arsenal and City. But with Yaya,Fernandinho,Silva,Nasri,Navas and Milner to start with I cannot look any further.

Strikers.Aguero and Negrado against Suarez and Sturridge is the only real issue here and we have Dzeko as number 3.Suarez I would put top of the lot at the moment but as a pair I think we win this one.

So if all that's right what wins titles? Defence or attack. Maybe we are going to find out.

Back in the old days, before the Premier League, when we played with stone footballs and wooden boots, they used to say that goals win matches but defences win the league.

Hopefully we are about to prove that has changed, however the champions usually have one of the best three goal conceded figures.

I think the manager will have a big impact as well. How many titles did rags win which were down to Bacon? Certainly last years, as their side and squad were not as good as ours or even Chelseas, yet they won league fairly comfortably. Maybe Wenger has an advantage as he has won it before?

Best defence is hard to call. If our individual errors hadn't happened we'd have had least goals conceded. Fact is though we did concede them and am sure fans of every team can point to games where they shouldn't have lost/conceded. Chelsea or Arsenal probably have best defence, but Palace have had 5 clean sheets in last 9 games!

Midfield i agree with Doug. Equally i reckon fans of Chelsea and Arsenal would say same about own sides. Just think we have more goals in our midfield but they dont defend as well.

Attacking wise again its a tough one but we have scored more than anyone by 12, so it has to be us really.

In a nutshell i think we will win league

It's only opinion but I'm sorry to say that I can't bring myself to see Joe Hart as being the best keeper in the prem because he's had a howler of a season so far and is just picking up again after a lay-off forced by his game throwing early failures.
He did look good in his last game and could get back up to a decent standard of reliability if he can keep it together for a while but the stats currently have him as being average compared to others and even my best blue tints can't compete with that.
I also don't think that we're as bad defensively as some of us prefer to believe because we've only conceded 21 league goals which compares extremely well with the 3 teams to better that (Arse 18, everton 18 and chelsea 19) but our defence is obviously going to be more exposed by the way we attack and that 54 goals scored is much to do with our attacking effort from all areas - including defence!
In short, we don't have the best keeper for obvious reasons but our defence is better than any other when you consider the goals scored by 'defensive' players compared to goals conceded. Indeed, contrary to popular opinion, our defence may well be our strongest point in real terms.

Thoughts?
If we had De Gea and the rags had Hart, we'd be top with a 9 point lead and they'd be in 12th place - that's the difference between a 'good' keeper and a 'top class' keeper - 12 places - think about it.

Bear in mind, we are in the privileged position of not having to play against ourselves at the Etihad. I dread to think what our goals against would be if we did.

Attack is the best form of defence, right? Therefore we have the best defence, right? We're going to win the league.

Midfield wins titles. A great midfield can make an average defense or attack look very good. We have by far the most talented and balanced midfield of any team. Yaya/Fernandinho are an incredible paring - then add Nasri, Silva, Navas, Milner.... WOW

I think we have the best RB (zabba), CB (Kompany), and attacking LB (Kolarov). I'd take Aguero any day over Suarez, and Neggers is in a different league than sturridge. Aguero/Negredo is the probably the best strike partnership in the world, let alone PL. shrek/rapist is good on their day, but too inconsistent, and just not nearly as good as sergio and Alvaro. No one is. Plus we have Dzeko to bring on and hopefully Jovetic soon.

Liverpool - good attacking play and solid CBs, but weak in midfield and almost no squad depth
Chelsea - solid defense, great attacking midfield, but poor strikers and lacking top class holding/defensive midfielders
Arse - defense works well together, good attacking midfield, and a striker who has finished a good % of his chances. But little depth and lacking top class holding/defensive midfielder besides the aging flamini
spuds - look all over the place in defense, lacking top strikers, but good players in midfield if they learn to work together
scum - shit players, shit manager, bunch of cheating cunts. and a grannyshagger who is keeping them afloat

Most of the top contenders have a great attacking midfield, but ours is better and we have more depth. City have some gaps, but top players in all the important places. A world class spine is what makes us so strong; Aguero, Yaya, Kompany, Hart. Our mental strength and focus will be the only deciding factor if we win the title or not.

What wins titles? Having the most points at the end of the season. Doesn't matter if that's by 38 1-0s or 38 6-3s.

If you did the same analysis last season I reckon we'd look the best - the defence was definitely better and the attack still potent, yet we lost the league by 11 points.

It's a team game and the team, manager included, which is at least the sum of its parts will win it. Didn't happen for whatever reason last season. This season, if we can actually be a team in away games then we should walk it.
