Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

I wouldnt put it past them...

...if for example they finished 7th this season....and 5th next season...gill and his cronies would try to engineer a re-working of the CL qualifying...I can just imagine..."fans are tired of the top 4 format and want to see more excitement at the seasons end...we suggest top 3 qualify and 4-7 play off...as is so succesful in the championship..." said fa vice president gill.

Very cynical of me, but not half as cynical and conniving as that lot

I don't think you are far from wrong. Nothing surprises me with them anymore

Cheating scum. End of
"If we fire our manager after just one bad season - We'll become Chelsea"
"If we think we can fix the problem by buying expensive players - We'll become City"
"If we remember the good times to entertain us during the bad times - We'll become Liverpool"

So, keep calm and do it the United way

"We invest in young players, That is what we are good at — we’re not like other clubs who can spend fortunes on proven goods. We know that Manchester City are going to pay stupid money, pay silly salaries and all that. We can’t do anything about it. We concentrate on what we can do to try to bring players in for the right reasons. We invest in those who will be with the club for a long time, who will create the character of the club, who will create excitement for our fans. We are very proud of that and we are going to continue that way" - Alex Ferguson 14th May 2012

Okay, but that's pure speculation.

Most importantly the more they do badly the less influence they have to do as the OP suggests. With Taggart gone criticism has already reached un-heard of proportions, though not to our level yet!

The financial consequences of not finishing up in the CL could be quite severe because of the way the club is run. A lot more serious than the other 3 clubs. Shame.

I agree. We no longer have to concern ourselves with them anymore.
What will be weird though is when they play the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal later in the season we'll be hoping they win.

You might, I never will. Even if they go down to the Conference I'll still want them to lose

They are no longer a threat. Thus when they play genuine challengers to us such as Arsenal and Chelsea, it's best for us that they take points off them.

If you'd rather them lose, even if them winning would benefit us and help us win the title then it raises questions about whether you support city more than you hate united.

I love when they lose, but them losing doesn't give me anywhere near the pleasure that us winning does. Ever.

Shrek's body language last night suggested he'd be hard put to see out the week. Nice FA Cup defeat now should do nicely, dont think they'll find Swansea easy at all.

It's two sides of the same coin, part of being a City fan that makes us want the scum to lose and keep losing. In the case of them taking points off our challengers, it's just a consolation if they do that.

I don't understand though. I'd never 'want them to win' for the sake of it but if them winning a game means we benefit then why not?
They play Arsenal away in February, if Arsenal are still ahead of us by then will you honestly want Arsenal to win? Even though a United win would take us closer to winning the title.

I think it's a sign of how far both us and the Rags have gone (in opposite directions) that they are now in a position where they can help us by taking points off our title challengers.

Soon we'll be accusing them of rolling over for our challengers as they always did to us.

0-0 draw. With numerous red cards. Fans invade the pitch, murder phil dowd and both teams lose 20 points. Job's a good 'un.

That's where I'd disagree. Being a City fan comes so far in front of hating United. They are not equal. Of course I find it funny and enjoy it when United lose but no United loss will EVER give me as much pleasure as a City win.

It reminds me of about 4 seasons ago when we missed out on 4th. In the 3rd last game week, we played Arsenal and Untied played Spurs. I remember lots of my City mates and posters scattered around here and bluemoon couldn't bring themselves to want Spurs to lose to United even though them doing so gave us a higher chance of getting 4th place.

As it happens they did lose and we ballsed it up against Arsenal and Spurs but that's another story.
Over the next few weeks they go to Arsenal and Chelsea. Two sides who could challenge us for the title. Yes I don't like to see the rags win, but if them winning gives us the greater chance of winning the league then that's the outcome I would hope for. If you can't, then you are clearly more concerned with them failing than us succeeding.
I hope they don't finish in the top 4 this season but if they do then they do. I won't lose much sleep over what they're up to.

True, that's what draws were invented for ;-)
If the total mayhem you describe doesn't come to pass, both our title rivals and arch enemies losing two points would be ideal.
