Who is for the chop

Postby nottsblue » Sat Jan 04, 2014 6:05 pm

It is apparent our first team is the best there is but some of our squad players are quite frankly not up to it. I know being a squad player takes a different breed as they have to be happy playing 2nd fiddle so I don't think it's as easy as saying sell so and so and buy so and so as the bought player might not like being a squad player.

I think if we can get a left back Clichy, for me, can go. Offers little going forward and isn't rock solid at the back to compensate.
Boyata is simply not good enough. Sell
Nastasic I would have as a squad player for now as he just isn't good enough to be first choice yet he has potential so I wouldn't look to sell him just yet. That means a walk in first choice centre back who don't grow on trees. But thats why we have scouts. If said ready made first choice CB comes in then Lescott can be sold but only if a player comes in. He falls into the reliable squad player for me.
If Alonso came in Garcia could go out on loan. Wouldn't sell him just yet though, wait until after World cup.
Would sell Rodwell if replacement can be found. He is just too injury prone.
Same for Richards.
Jovetic I'd give another season as this has been a washout for him.
Dzeko I'd keep as I doubt we'd get someone as good who wouldn't kick off about being rotated.
Am I right in assuming we still own Sinclair? If so, sell
Guidetti is worth perseveering with for another season or loan him to Prem club for rest of season to see how he shapes up

This is all obviously not going to happen in this window and will be an ongoing process. However I do think are 2nd string aren't as good as could be. I'd love it if 2or 3 from EDS made the grade and become good enough to warrant a place in squad. Maybe it is worth getting rid of some of above names and putting likes of Lopez, Cole, Denayer, Evans and the like in. One thing is for sure, they will be hungry and will know our system of playing and aren't in it for money

No one in January except loan Guidetti out to some PL club. I am starting to think Pellers doesn't rate him.

Some of our injury prone players should be looked at properly in the summer, mainly Rodwell and Micah.

This is not panic after a drawn game. My own view on today is that we are still in the hat with a replay at home which we are likely to win and thus progress which is job done.
The thread is about the squad in general which I don't think is as good as it could be. For varying reasons. Also as mentioned it is not a quick fix, rather an ongoing process which quite frankly you would expect the club to do anyway.

Exactly, 1999 we needed penalties to
to get promoted to what is now the championship. Problem is alot of fans only became city "fans" post 2008 takeover.

Andie is clear to see one or two of our squad are not up to it,it's not knee jerk,it's not panic,it's a fact.

If there was a chance we could get Alonso i would do it Garcia wouldn't get near the team,If there was a chance of us signing a new left back Kolarov wouldnt get near the team,if there was a chance we could sign a new right back for cover Boyata wouldn't get near the team,if we could go out and sign a new striker Dzeko wouldnt get near the team.
If you have the chance to sign BETTER players you must do it and i'm sorry that not knee jerk.

Those writing off clichy are a tad harsh in my opinion.

Garcia has been done to death, a few of us held out hope for boyata, but he's really making it difficult for himself.

Yeah it's feeling like2012 again when both my sides took the title :)

Quality of football over here has a way to go, but it's well and truly heading in the right direction mate.

Commentators made me laugh they said the only thing that could stop the Roar winning the title is their pitch. Is it really that bad of a pitch?

It's a lovely pitch at suncorp, problem is roar play second fiddle to every other event. We play a possession game and last home match the pitch was worse than the Britannia when city visit as Bon Jovi player there the night before. We now have 9/14 games remaining at home, but more concerts and both versions of rugby start up soon and they all dig the pitch up really badly.

Blackburn away after the December we've just had was always going to be a tough game. Glad we came away still in the cup. We'll hammer them by 3 or 4 at home and go on to win the cup!! Garcia with the winner in the 89th minute!! ;)

That would depend on the quality of the new acquisitions.

Also, bullshit.
