How many will we get for West Ham?

Postby john@staustell » Sun Jan 05, 2014 9:48 am

So - ticket sales sluggish, never popular these CC matches. Even in 76 we only got about 44-45,000 I seem to recall. Shocking performance at Blackburn not doing much for the enthusiasm.

I'm going to go for 40-42,000 and the usual stick from the RAGS for fans dressed as blue seats. Unless they lose today of course in which case they'll all keep their heads well down all week!

I am hoping we'll get 5 or 6 without reply, though I think it will be a lot tougher than that.

Can be no excuse for lack of enthusiasm due to a poor performance at Blackburn. This is a League Cup Semi Final and a great opportunity to get to a final and possibly win a trophy.

The tickets are £25 for adults and a fiver for Under 16s so reasonably priced.

I reckon about 40,500

I can't wait. Can't get to many matches nowadays because of a lack of cash but hats off to the club for charging only a fiver for kids to go and see a cup semi-final.

I think 40,000 + which will be an OK turnout - the match-going fans have had a lot of expense recently and a lot more to come so some will be having to budget/plan carefully

my issue with these matches are generally that they are WEEK MATCHES.

To me, there isn't that much different in a home cup tie with barca and a home CC tie with brentford.

I work long hours and have little way of attending week night matches. It also has crazy affects on my insomnia (i have found city are the biggest cause of my insomnia!)

Also - the atmosphere is gash, the ground is full of tourists, and people in my block get punished for actually attending week matches by getting banned for standing up and singing.

so all in all - a negative post - but I just think alot of people 'can't be arsed/can't make it' due to logistics of week night matches; its nothing to do with the competition, as i think we struggled to sell out the champions league groups the past two years??

I'll be going but I haven't bought a ticket yet. I suspect there are loads in the same situation. How many, I don't know but I bet it's a lot.

In my case it's because I recon I'll get a ticket without hurrying so have been putting off facing the seating map etc. If it did sell out though, I wouldn't be arsed.

Funnily enough, if we had 5 kids from the EDS in the team, I'd be there like a shot.

I do appreciate what you are saying Nick but for long-time supporters like myself who don't have a lot of spare cash to hand and would like to take their kids to watch the match live it is a godsend that the club charges relatively little to watch a major cup semi-final.

On a slightly different note, if we were to put 6 past West Ham on Wednesday, which isn't beyond the realms of possibility, do we think that would be enough security to convince Pellers to play 4 or 5 of the academy kids?

Nah. But possibly Lopes & one at righ back. Then again Micah, Jovetic etc will need games.

Quick question mate, and I know where you are coming from (difference is I signed up to the bloody cup scheme cos i forget to get tickets otherwise!) - it's this 2 legged thing that takes the sheen off it as a 'cup' game.

If it was treated as a proper semi-final and held at a Neutral ground (not bloody Wembley!) would you/others be more 'up for it'?

I certainly feel I would as currently it just feels like a league match.

I'm the wrong person to ask mate, as I can't be doing with the football authorities & their freeloaders ripping off fans for tickets, which is legalised touting, the whole Wembley project, everything.

So Wembley/neutral ground, the only way I'd go to either is if I can't resist due to my City addiction, rather than by choice.

I have no intention of ever going to Wembley again as it stands, after the Stoke game which I HAD to go to. Same with Semi finals on neutral grounds, Wembley anywhere. Can't promise I'll stck to it forever but that is my intention & I won't be going to any finals this year, if we get there. So for me, the game being at our place actually means I'll be there.

I have my ticket and I'm taking the missus as well but I would feel more enthusiasm if it were a one off game. It does nt even need to be neutral. Just do the draw as normal and the first team out plays at home in a one off. That said I'm buzzing we are in another semi. Happy days to be a blue!

A few yrs back we used to dream about being in any semi-final.

Now we see people debating whether to go or whinging about the number of games... "shakes head."

The club have brought in a squad of fabulous players and are charging £25 a head or £5 for kids to see a home semi-final - they cant really do any more can they?

Put it this way, the ones who do show up on weds and go to West ham away should be first in line for final tkts if we do make it. As usual thats when the "I cant get a tkt, oh woe is me its not fair" brigade will come to the fore again no doubt.
