Shay Facey

Postby Mase » Sun Jan 05, 2014 11:59 am

I was watching the video on Pat V and his season so far with the EDS on the official site and he mentioned Shay Facey as the one who's impressed him most.
I've tried to keep an eye on him and I know he's been made captain a few times.
Anyone here watch him regularly and have an opinion on if he's going to make it or not?

Basically, I'm wondering why we're messing around with Boyata at right back when he's clearly no better than Savic, and not promoting someone like Facey?

I saw that Vieira interview and was very interested by comments and special mention of Shay. I think he singled him out more for his attitude and development than saying his performances have been outstanding although he must think the latter is true to some degree.Whether he is ready to be thrown into 1st team action is very debatable but I would think he would have been a better option than Boyata.

Significantly because Boyata is clearly not a right back and clearly not part of the future at City.I wouldn't bet money on Shay being part of the future at City either but one way of finding out is to throw him in when an opportunity presents itself.Yes has also captained sides recently and he has mostly played at center back rather than full back but he has a great enthusiasm for the game, quite quick too and I am sure has had calls ups for England squads at some ages.

He is one of many EDS/U18 defenders who imo are better on the ball than most of our 1st team defenders but, to me, don't look physically upto playing the position at Prem level.

Facey looks like a fullback playing cb to me. But at EDS level, he can do it.

I would imagine he will get chances in the 1st team squad at fullback. Then we will find out if he can defend well enough.

But as defending doesn't seem to matter, at all, the whole lot of them must he in with a chance as they can all pass move & sprint better than Nastasic. His only attribute over them is physical.

I appreciate the responses.

I have seen him on a few highlights of the EDS matches flicking the ball over the attacker (Gazza against Scotland style) and bringing it down and laying it off for someone else, so I can see why you guys are saying he's good on the ball.

So it's looking likely that he'll go down the same road as Kieran Trippier, who by all accounts is doing really really well at Burnley and I think they'll struggle to keep him if a big bid comes in during January.

I would rate him as well ahead of Trippier at the same point personally.

I always thought Trippier would make it and seeing him twice recently I think we've missed out letting him go. His crossing and free kicks are brilliant, as is his agility. If Facey is on a par with him or better I hope we get to see him as Zabba's understudy soon.

Trippier is a better player now than he was then, altough he always had some talent. Again, he was just not upto it physically, to get a spot in our team at that time. Doubt if he is now tbh. Small geezers who make it in the Prem, as defenders, re usually a bit more 'Nige' in build.

That could be the decider with a lot of our young defenders imo, but some will have the chance of moving to midfield if the PL is too 'big' for them to play at the back.

Pal of mine is a Barnsley fan and when he was there on loan always said he was mustard. Disappointed when he left. Is a lower level I know but he never really had a chance here. I really hope the current crop from EDS get an opportunity

I've watch Trippier since he was about 7 or 8 playing on the same team as my brother in Bury. He stood out then. Head and shoulders above any other kid.

I genuinely hope this Facey kid makes it if as Pat says he's putting in the work.

Facey is a local lad and was picked up from the club I coach at when he was 11/12. Good to see PV giving him praise. He came back to the club last year to do some trophy presentations for the younger kids, he is a good lad.

Burnley are going great guns, so we may well see how Trippier does in the prem next season!!

Been saying this since I seen him in those exhibition games against Chelsea at the end of last season!. Looked very assured.
No idea why he hasn't been given a chance at RB with the problems we have. Looks streets ahead of Boyata in terms of being a footballer. All this physical nonsense is rubbish , may I remind people of Baines, A Cole, Lahm etc? All small in stature but probably the finest full backs around. The laughable part is... He isn't actually that small and isn't afraid to get stuck in.

What does it take for our younger players to get a chance these days? It seems square pegs in round holes is the better/easier option than givin a younger player a chance.
