No. I'd sign him now. 18 month deal. I know he would be cup tied for Champs league but it would help out on domestic front. His passing is superb. He's free in the summer. What do you think he's worth? 18 months isn't anything he would sign either. He will want something like 3 or 4 years. Its his last contract basically.

Alonso is such an intelligent footballer.I think he would fit in very well and if he's going on a free it's a no brainer.I would imagine Scouse red will be scrambling to get him back again.

I'd pay £3/4m for him. Maybe even £5m. I know he is free in summer but he is a player who could make a difference to our midfield. He could be the difference between 1st or 2nd especially if another Prem club got him so well worth the money. Lets not forget we got NDJ in this way. As for his contract, he is 32? Doubt any club will give 3/4 year deal. Could always add on another year as an option on 18 month deal depending on fitness or games played

We won't get a better midfielder in this month than Xabi Alonso. We also deny him to the scum and Chelsea if we get him. I'm not sure we'll get a better midfielder in the close season either. How old is he? How fit is he? Has he got a couple of good years left in his boots? Almost certainly.

Alonso is the kind of player who will send me into depression.

Fernandinho is lighting up the place & instead of looking for someone similar, we sign yet another fucker who needs planning permission.

Garcia, Martinez, Alonso. Same shit, from different angles. Alonso= great big lump who can hit long balls when we need short ones, can't catch anyone when we need pace, just stand there occupying space, looking cool, doing absolutely fuck all that we require but taking a shirt, & wages.

Please Txiki, don't let the Count do this.

Im with Ted on this one.

Fernando and Matuidi have 6 months left on their current deals, therefore shouldnt be too expensive. City wont get anyone better than Matuidi in januray.

I think Alonso's better than Ted suggests and could help us win the title. He's surely a lot better as a third midfielder than Garcia. Anyway Ancelotti is saying no one leaving or coming so that looks a dead duck. Koke is part of an Atletico side which is top of La Liga so I'm not sure he'd come loose. He's probably the sort of young dynamic midfielder Ted has in mind. Chelsea are looking at a Milan midfielder. I don't know how good he is.

Ask yourself why Madrid, who have an excellent manager, are willing to let him go.

Ask your self are we have better solution for less money then him.Real Madrid is club who change players all the time(they sell Ozil is he crap) and for Real marketing hes not good in term of selling shirt anymore.I really think hes good better of what we have if Ferna and Yaya are injured

Ask yourself who drops out of the side to make way for him, as he will want to play regularly, & whether we will be better or worse when we drop that player to make way for him.

Then ask yourself whether Bayern, Barca or indeed Real Madrid would be even slightly interested in signing him, on a free transfer, if we were releasing him.

We let Barry go out on loan for being too slow, why would we sign someone who is at the stage of their career where they are expected to lose pace? We play a quick short passing game often with just two in central midfield and Alonso wouldn't really have suited us. As was said we need a second Fernandinho.
