Scum of the Earth (Away) - New Date?

Postby AG7 » Mon Jan 13, 2014 4:48 pm

Any ideas when our visit to the swamp will be now?

Originally scheduled for 1st March (Saturday 3pm) ... surely when TV picks it up it'll either be a Super Sunday game for 2nd March or the Monday Night Football game on 3rd March ... but given the Final of the CapitalOne Cup is scheduled on Sunday 2nd March and with us highly likely to be involved in it, this will by all means be moved to a later (or earlier) date ...

The only open date I can see in the calendar is a mid-week tie before this weekend (so say Tue 25th or Wed 26th Feb) ... but given the Final of the League Cup too could be a derby, don't think anyone (TV companies first, and well, everyone really) will want to schedule it this way ...

Next mid-week on 5th March is an England friendly (vs Denmark) at Wembley and given both sides will have players fielding in that rules that week out.

The weekend of 8th/9th March then has us scheduled for a Villa game at home, plus it is also the FA Cup Quarter Final tie, in which hopefully we will be involved in, and if we are we'll have two games that'll need re-arranging, the Away derby as well as Villa at home ...

Next mid-week 12th we play Barca away, followed by Hull away on the weekend (15th March) ...

So really will just leave us with a Tue/Wed somewhere later part of March or sometime in April that we'll have to play that ... would everyone involved (TV, the league, the FA, the 'authorities') like that? Or will we be switching another of the league games for mid-week and play this one out on a weekend?

I remember Chelsea playing a Tue-Thu-Sun-Tue towards the end of their season when they had gone all the way in FA Cup as well as the Europa League ... I guess our congestion will be worse if we get past Barca and continue in FA Cup too ... we have already played 9 in December and have 9 in January ... and by the looks of it, it will be a busy busy March too, with 8 games in it too (unless this away Derby gets so far postponed that it gets into April) ...

Q: Any idea when it is likely to be?

PS. Won't it be sweet if it is pushed so far out that we actually go and win the league there this season? or second-best scenario, win it the week before and they have to form a guard of honor when we get there ...

When we got to the final of the Full Member Cup we had to play the rags the previous day. Given our squad resources I predict a lunchtime ko on the Sat for the derby and a 5.30 ko on the Sunday.

Swapping fixtures is not an option. Remember we played them on a Wednesday night in 2011, its just the way the cookie crumbles sometimes.

Sometimes, a game like this on a Weds night is possibly worth more to advertisers, pubs etc given that it gets people off their arse into the pubs on a day they would have usually stayed home, and watched football on tv on a night they wouldn't normally have done so is a win win

Love the idea of after we have won league so they have to give us a guard of honour. Or maybe late April, so we can actually win it at the swamp. Maybe even extinguish any hope of rags finishing 4th or even 6th so they dont even have Europa league. Dreaming....

All joking aside , as late as possible when the fans coming up to a home game realise there is nothing for them in the game.

Throw another spanner in the works here, after 4th round of fa cup, we start getting Saturday league fixtures postponed don't we?

If we have a run in the FA cup, march and April could easily see 4 games a week on a couple of occasions, as it's not difficult to see us at least in the 5th round of the fa cup is it?

No doubt it will be scheduled after the Rags are out of the CL and we'll have a game to play 2 days before and 2 days after.

I think they'll try and save this one, they have a couple of bankers each season and I can see them using it as a 'Rags can do damage to City's Title Hopes' type of story. Games like that sell and will have every football fan in the country tuning in, as well as half of Asia and the Far East.
In the words of my Old Man, "Life will never be the same without Man City, so get it in while you can".

I'm assuming they beat the waiters in the CL, we could draw them in that. We could then beat them 4 times in about 6 weeks. Happy days.

(Yes, I am assuming we beat Barca, but City is now starting to make me strangely optimistic).

Sky and BT has announced March picks ... Hull v City is picked by BT Sport and the following are Sky's games ...

According to this, our derby has been moved to 25th March instead of 1st March ... Mid week 7:45pm kickoff ... three days before Arsenal away ... ass holes ... and i'm sure Arsenal rest for the whole week before playing us at home while we go away to swamp on 25th night then go away to Emirates on 29th ...

The March line-up on Sky Sports is as follows:

Sat March 1 : Southampton v Liverpool (5.30pm)
Sun March 2: Aston Villa v Norwich (4.30pm)
Sat March 8: Chelsea v Tottenham (5.30pm)
Sun March 9: Newcastle v Everton (4pm)
Mon March 10: Liverpool v Sunderland (8pm)
Sat March 15: Aston Villa v Chelsea (5.30pm)
Sun March 16: Manchester United v Liverpool (1.30pm)
Sun March 16: Tottenham v Arsenal (4pm)
Sat March 22: West Ham v Manchester United (5.30pm)
Sun March 23: Tottenham v Southampton (1.30pm)
Sun March 23: Aston Villa v Stoke (4pm)
Tue March 25: Manchester United v Manchester City (7.45pm)
Sat March 29: Arsenal v Manchester City (5.30pm)
Sun March 30: Fulham v Everton (1.30pm)
Sun March 30: Liverpool v Tottenham (4pm)
Mon March 31: Sunderland v West Ham (8pm)

And this is the BT Sport Game ...

@City_Watch: Hull vs. City moves from 3pm on March 15 to 12:45pm for BT. Not much time between Barca (March 12, 7:45pm) and Hull (March 15, 12:45pm).

TV picks haven't been kind to us ... our Hull Away game moved a few hours earlier so now literally 2 days and a few hours in between Barca (Away leg) and on to Hull ... never mind the Chelsea cup game before Barca (Home leg) (still to be announced if that's on sat or sun) ... so both Barca games have a close by fixture ... then we play the local derby mid week on a Tuesday night 7:45pm ... after which Scum has another home game (that too against Villa) while we have another away game against Arsenal (who not to mention would not have had a mid week game and would have rested a whole week) while we go on the back on the derby ... shit! not nice, not nice at all! What only three difficult games left?

Tuesday night at the swamp is not exactly a change to how we would prepare for a home game and its a Tuesday and not a weds so this is all good IMO.
