To keep with the real estate development metaphor I was using above:

Hughes managed the old property as it transitioned from a low grade strip mall into a respectable commercial property. He moved out some of the old tenets who hadn't paid rent in awhile, did some repairs to the building to bring it up to scratch, and brought in some higher class tenets who raised the prestige of the building. Then when the investor (Sheikh Mansour) was ready to redevelop the land into a true class A commercial property (which required something more than a run of the mill property manager), hughes got bitter and turned back into his raggy self.

I think Bob and Manuel are obviously leagues above hughes. Both in their ability and in their contribution to the development/history of MCFC. But as Slim said above, Sheikh Mansour is in a league above everyone else and nothing is possible without him.

I have no idea of any baggage being carried but the guy gave a view to say Mancini has some real strengths and weaknesses and that Pellegrini deserves a lot of credit but it's also early days.
