Manchester City could be about to submit an offer for Celta Vigo forward Santi Mina, according to reports in Madrid. talkSPORT’s Transfer Spotlight takes a look at the 18-year-old…

Name: Santiago Mina Lorenzo
Date of birth: 7 December, 1995
Birthplace: Vigo, Spain
Position: Forward
Club: Celta
International appearances: 6 (Spain U19)

What’s the latest?
A report in AS today says there is a strong offer on the table from Manchester City for Mina. AS add that City want to bring the youngster in now, and in the coming hours his future should be resolved. They add that while the player’s family are keen to avoid an exit from the Galician club at the moment, preferring for him to stay and mature before trying to make the step up, the City offer could be too good to refuse. It is worth keeping in mind that City have a decent relationship with Celta, having signed midfielder Denis Suarez from them in 2011.

Did you know?

1) The son of a former Celta first team player of the same name, Mina joined the club in 2005 as an 11-year-old, and has long been considered one of the most exciting players in their youth system.

2) As a youth player Mina broke club goalscoring records, scoring 25 goals in 17 games with the juvenile side, and as a result was promoted to the B team in 2012. By that stage he had already made his unofficial first team debut at the age of 16, playing against Lugo in an October 2011 friendly.

3) Mina’s time with Celta B was short, and before long he had made his first team debut against Getafe in February 2013. As a result, he became the third youngest player ever to take the field for Celta in the Spanish top flight. He was promoted to the first team permanently in the summer of 2013.

4) The Galician scored his first senior goal as a Celta player at the New San Mames against Athletic Bilbao in September 2013. That goal made him the youngest-ever scorer for Celta in La Liga, and only furthered the hype around the young forward.

5) A Spain youth international, Mina made his U19 debut for his nation in March 2013, coming on as a substitute in a 1-0 defeat to Germany. He has since made a further five international appearances.

They say
“Mina’s family are against leaving Balaidos so soon, and prefer that he waits one or two years before making the step up to a big team. However, there are some opportunities that only come up once in your life, and signing for one of the biggest teams in Europe is an option they will consider seriously. The striker is being watched by several clubs and his exit seems only to be a matter of time.” – Clemente Garrido in AS.
