Excuse my ignorance but who is Fernando?

Sitting at Vegas airport with a hammers fan - their fans forum is saying Lescott is joining them tomorrow as we are expected to complete Mangala - they make it sound like a done deal

Edit to say that having now caught up with thread this is not the scoop that was thinking it was
Further edit - wow guys we are making it !!!! Sports shop at Vegas airport sell CITY tops

You are very Optimistic !!

While the Premier League club have offered Javi Garcia on a half-season loan as part of the Fernando deal, Porto baulked at the former Benfica midfielder's salary. The Spaniard may now be moved to Atletico Madrid instead.

These stories don't make sense. We'd be in most need of a def mid for the Chumps League games and we'd be buying a cup tied player whilst losing a player who couldn't play chumps for his new club.

Stick with what we have please. Trades can be done in the summer.

If he moves to Porto he could, and we can field either Fernando or Mangala(assuming we get both) in the Chumps League.

Won't these 2 be cup tied? I am sure Pellers knows what he is doing. Garcia will stay for now as he can play midfield or defence and Pellers seems to trust him to do a job. Plus Demi can also play midfield and defence. Plenty of options.

Sorry to mention scum again, but I did laugh at this.

They reckon we're after them just to spite them

http://thepeoplesperson.com/2014/01/31/ ... e-signing/

Manchester City are giving Manchester United the middle finger with double signing

Manchester City are lining up a double deadline day signing from PC Porto in Eliaquim Mangala and Fernando, according to widespread reports in both Portugal and England.

Mangala, a 22-year-old French defender, is touted as one of the best defensive prospects around Europe but has an extortionate fee of over €40 million which is a lot considering his price and experience. In comparison, Thiago Silva moved to PSG for €42 million when he was an established world-class centre back at his prime.

United had been keeping tabs on Mangala for months and had sent scouts out on multiple occasions to watch the pair in action but hadn’t followed that interest up just yet.

As for Fernando, City already have Yaya Toure, Fernandinho, Javi Garcia and Jack Rodwell as well as Gareth Barry on loan. Why would they need another battling type of midfielder? United are in dire straits in terms of their midfield and Fernando would have been a great signing but instead, Fernando may choose the bigger pay day at City rather concentrate on just his football.

From a United perspective, the thought of City signing Mangala and Fernando is terrible as they fit the bill for what United’s first XI needs, but you can unfortunately see City hijacking both deals simply because they have the ability and funds to.

Did I say we could play one of them?

Quite clearly one of us bothered to look up the rules on player eligibility, take a fucking wild guess who that was.

Indeed he does; as Slim has said:

From 2010

The executive committee agreed that a player who appears for a club in any of the preliminary rounds of the Champions League or Europa League can play for another team in the competition proper as long as his original team is eliminated in the preliminary competition.

"The rules have been relaxed regarding what the English call "cup-tied" players, that is players who have already played for one team in a competition in a season, UEFA general secretary Gianni Infantino told Reuters.

"From next season, if a player's club is eliminated and he signs for a new club by the end of the summer transfer window on September 1 he can play for his new club in either competition.

"If he is not signed by the end of the summer window, he can move in the January window."

The one stipulation that remains is that clubs can add up to three new players in January, only one of whom will be eligible if they have previously played in the qualifying rounds.

18.18 For all matches from the start of the round of 16, a club may register a maximum of three new eligible players for the remaining matches in the current competition. Such registration must be completed by 3 February 2014 (24.00 CET) at the latest. This deadline cannot be extended.
18.19 One player from the above quota of three who has been fielded in a UEFA club competition group stage match for
another club in the current season may exceptionally be registered, provided that the player has not been fielded:
a) in the same competition for another club; or b) for another club that is currently in the same competition.

I've missed copy & pasting the first bit of the rule I intended to, & posted the bit which comes after it on its own though.

But I can't be arsed doing it again.

If all this is true, there must be a lot of phone calls being made right now, as different scenarios involve both Porto players, plus possibly either Garcia or Lescott going to other clubs, maybe Lopes going on loan, plus the rags are supposed to be trying to take Otemendi from there, which would leave Porto with two cbs leaving at once, which they surely won't allow.

Either way, if they arrive or not, get the deals done now & it avoids an auction in the summer.

Couple of bookings in that vid if he does it in our league.

That's the kind of performance I was hoping to see from Rodwell v Watford. He really didn't do himself any favours in that game.
