So Evra triggers a clause in his contract for an extension United are willing to pay Wooney 300k per week. Vidic and probably Ferdinand will go in the summer.

There is no solid team/squad structure there.

They'll all be really jealous of Rooney's special deal.

I can see another Leeds ...

Most players get about 12 years of top flight football and wear and tear plays a big part in that. For most, that's say 21-33. Shrek started much younger, so he'd be doing well just to make 30. He's also not some lightweight who might get away with it. His knees and other joints will take a real pounding from his size. On top of that, he doesn't look like someone who can play like anything but a teenager - I think he'd make a pretty good midfielder, if he could stand still and use his ability, but he'd charge round like a puppy. That's not going to allow him to manage his career out.

I'm not convinced they'll be getting great value for money from that contract in a couple of years

Wait a minute, I've not read the Evra contract thing but are you saying that the Rags didn't want to give Evra an extention but he had a clause in his contract which meant they had to?

That sounds bizarre.

If true, it's an awful lot of money to be paying, but considering the season they're having, letting their star player leave would be sending the wrong message so it was vital, for their sake, that they kept him.

Obviously Rooney himself is in a fantastic position - he's held them to random before and because of their current predicament, he's able to do it again.

Unfortunately for them, keeping Rooney solves just one issue. They have problem areas all over the pitch and they are going to need to radically overhaul their squad to become title challengers again. They'll be able to cope with one season out of the Champions League, but if it happens for a second season, then their problems will severely deepen.

The Evra clause was that if he played a certain number of games in his final year of contract (i think it was 23) the he could enforce a year long extension at his final salary (120k a week) but still be able to walk away on a free transfer if he got a better offer. Not sure who dreams these contracts up but i suspect some kind of not available over the counter at Boots products were involved. Anyway yet another screw up for them so not complaining. Butt head is the only other LB in the squad and he's going apparently so presumably Valencia will be their first choice unless they buy two LBs in summer.

So , if even all the squad players that are not starters are thinking about leaving, either they are going to be buying heavily in the Summer, or they have a plan to introduce 'Moyes-by's Babes'.

Just waiting for him to say he signed up because he loves the club.
He's no different to twentysomethings who marry 80 year-old millionaires with a heart condition.

It also convines me Van pussey will leave in the summer, cos there's no way he's gonna accept someone earning 50 per cent more than him.

I don't see it.

They are poor in central defence and in central midfield and they are willing to let a leftback walk for nothing. Because they won't have enough to do in the summer trying to highjack Fernando and buying back Pogba and trying to get Dortmund(or worse, heard they were sniffing around PSG presumably for Silva) to part with their centrehalves?

He must be able to squeeze a bit more out of them - guarantees that he'll always play; final say on transfers; be made captain; guarantee to always earn 50% more than anyone else; first dibs on Moyes' mum etc.

Probably finding out the reality of being a small fish in a much bigger pond is he can't just buy who he wants like Bacon could. Doesn't want to lose the fish already on the line.

I miss fishing, think I might do some this weekend.

However you look at it they have a big rebuilding process to undertake and that means big money outgoings.

And I think they found out that you can't have Moyes in the job of selecting those players. Thiago and Cesc hardly seemed realistic at any point and I don't even see them as players that fit the Moyes style, I think Sideshow Bob and Baines were his main choices and they even failed to land one of them.
