And then they scored. Great game. Thanks a lot!

Watching the highlights, Dzeko seems to have been involved in a lot of build-up play and unlike the past, he didn't bust a move. Sure he missed that chance but did you see how he attacked that post?
"I used to be 6 foot 2 with curly hair, look what it's done to me"

"In my career so far it's the most important goal. You score the goal in the last minute to win the title. You're not sure if that's ever going to happen in your career again. I wish I could tell you how I did it but I can't. I thought for all the world that Mario was going to have a go himself but he just moved it on one more and it fell at my feet and I just thought: 'Hit the target, hit it as hard as you can and hit the target.' And it went in."

2) Those vids actually highlight why Dzeko's is one of the worst ever imo. Usually the ball bobbles or the player overhits it . He just basically couldn't be arsed making the effort to jump & get his left leg out of the way. Most would jump & transfer their weight but Edin was going through a sulk spell, probably due to people moaning when he couldn't be arsed reacting to Jovetic's shot, so was begrudgingly putting the ball over the line, & killing the game off, for us bunch of cunts, even though we don't deserve him.

Regarding Negredo: If he doesn't get his shit together soon, he will quickly be joining the Demba Ba, one hit wonder club. He is fucking garbage atm & we would have been better off without him in recent games. In fact with hindsight, we probably would have been better off v Barca with 6 midfield players like Pep used to do, & playing Yaya further forward.

Everyone will miss one like that at some point, from sunday league players to the best in the world, everyone. It's relatable. I'd say Villa's is worse than Edin's, the ball for him stops dead, wasn't bobbling or moving and he missed. The point is the very best in the world miss sitters. It happens.
I just think he took his eye off it and lost his bearings slightly. It was shite but in the end it doesn't matter.

MilnersJaw wrote:

Also someone said dzeko has scored 17 goals this season. Only 7 of them were in the league where it matters more.

Only 9 of Negredo's have been in the league. Only 2 of them I think have been away from home. It's very subjective to say it 'matters more' in the league. A goal is a goal and all 4 competitions are important.

As I said, I don't think he took his eye off it at all, it was a lazy finish because he was in a bad mood over the crowd reaction to his lack of effort/instinct to follow in Jovetic's shot imo & that's why I think it was a particularly awful miss.

I posted this is th dzeko thread earlier but fits well here too

I was having trouble remembering when Dzecko last had a shot on target.

So I went and looked at http://www.squawka.com/players/edin-dzeko#shot-accuracy#manchester-city-(current)#english-barclays-premier-league#8#season-2013/2014#64#all-matches#24-26#zone

Turns out in the last 3 premier league games he's had 11 shots, 0 on target. You can add in the Barca game: 17 mins played, 0 shots on target.

So he's not had a shot on target since the Spurs game on Jan 29th.

His overall shots on target for this season are only ok - 20 on target, 34 off target, 37% accuracy. Conversion rate pretty poor- 7 goals scored from those 54 shots.

In the 2014 calendar year, its 6 shots on target, 20 off, 23% accuracy. And for Feb, 17 shots, 0 on target, 0% accuracy.

So the data shows he's getting (much) worse as the season goes on. He's played a part in every premier league game since Dec 14th, so you can't argue that he's not getting a run.

Let's compare shot accuracy to our other strikers

Dzecko Jovetic Aguero Beast
Season 37% 50% 60% 50%
2014 23% 57% 57% 41%
Feb 0% 50% N/A 20%

Pretty apparent that he's our worst striker by some margin, assuming it's fair to base striker value on how often they can hit the target when shooting. Beast also declining lately, but still way better than Dzecko.

Other strikers to compare to

Dzeko Suarez Torres Sturridge
Season 37% 57% 52% 54%
2014 23% 44% 50% 57%
Feb 0% 33% 0% 56%

Dzeko even makes Torres look good....

He's gotta go in the summer for me...

Who care about shots on target? They take into account no context whatsoever. By your logic Torres ans Jovetic are on par with Suarez this season.

You know what's a better to base striker value on? How often they score.
Torres has scored 8 goals this season, Dzeko has 17.
But yeah, Dzeko makes Torres look good doesn't he?

7 in the league.

Tores has 4 in the league Negredo only has 9 in the league if we're going to play that game.
Negredo has 9 in 24 in the league, Dzeko has 7 in 17, hardly a chasm of difference.
All 4 competitions are important, why should we discount CL, Fa Cup or LC?
A goal next week in the cup will be far more important than it would have been against Stoke.

Can I just point out that Torres isn't very good ?

Neither is exactly deadly at the moment & neither is Negredo.

It's all a bit like arguing whether Noel Gallagher is a better guitarist than Woody out the Bay City Rollers.

Interesting from F365 about Dzeko:

The Bosnian has 17 goals this season, but on only two occasions, against Crystal Palace at home and Leicester away in the Capital One Cup, have his goals actually affected the outcome of the match. A striker does not enhance a reputation by scoring half of his goals in 5-0, 5-0, 5-1, 6-0 and 7-0 victories, and never has a return of a goal every two games looked as false.
derby day the scores were level,
then the goat was fed by neville,
silly boy should know for sure,
feed the goat and he will score!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not really interesting at all.
We've won several games, especially home games by big scores. How many 1 goal victories have we had? Not many. Therefore the majority of goals a lot of our players have scored won't 'affect the outcome of a match'.

Take the 2-0 victory against Newcastle for example. Dzeko scored early on, then it was 1-0 until stoppage time when Negredo scored as Newcastle had pushed up chasing the equaliser. It's hardly fair to say Dzeko's goal didn't affect the outcome of the match, of course it did.
All goals affect the outcome of a match, otherwise you'd be in a bizarre situation of saying none of the five goalscorers goals in a 5-0 affected the 'outcome'.

Strikes me as a player whose confidence affects his play more than most, and definitely more than you would expect of a top class striker.
He's never seemed to cope well mentally with rotation and, whilst he has scored goals as sub, has often not delivered when starting.
Having said that he has scored fifty plus goals for us and I'd still take him over any of Chelsea's or Spurs' strikers.
If he's happy to play second, or maybe even fourth fiddle next year I'd keep him. I certainly wouldn't tempt fortune by selling him to Arsenal!

If he scores a goal, I'm happy.

If he creates a goal, I'm happy.

If he stops a goal against, I'm happy.

How many times has he made me happy this season? Enough to give the big man time to make me happy once more.

As for Neggers, he's been shit lately, just like Jovetic all season and Sergio for long spells. That might sound a little over the top but in reality, Dzeko became our 4th striker but has managed to at least be there for the game, and score goals as well.

I feel a bit sorry for Dzeko. It's one of those misses he will go to bed thinking about and wake up thinking about. When he is 60 people will still remind him about it. I will if I bump into him.

have we ever had a more polarizing figure than dzeko?? at this point, i think it would be best for all parties - including the player himself - if he left in the summer.

So because some of our own fans are spoilt and unreasonable it would be best for him to leave?
Name me a better third choice striker in the league.
Not so long ago he was on a great scoring run, he has a couple of bad games and everyone's on his back.
He's not world class no, nor will he ever be. He looks clumsy yes, but the guy scored goals, big goals, lots of them, consistently.

I simply can't understand our fans getting on his back. Right now Aguero is injured, Jovetic is made of glass, Negredo is playing really poor. Who else do we play up top? He could be vital in our title run in, why don't you support him?
I remember you had a massive go at him in the match thread for missing the open net. But where was the massive criticism of Negredo for not touching the ball?

Why must our fans always always always have a boo boy?
