Real just spent £90m on Bale. Barca seem to have spent £97m on Neymar. Tranny would be worth a lot more than £80m now. PSG are about to offer $70m for Pogba. How much would Suarez be worth? What about Aguero?

So why wouldn't Messi be worth £150m? I don't think he'll leave, but if he does whilst at his peak, it'll be for a world record fee

Barcelona are making Neymar the new star so I could see them letting Messi go. But I wouldn't want City doing a deal that sent Aguero the other way.

1000% agree with this! I would rather see Sergio stay with us and have no Lionel at all, simply because, Sergio is prem league proven and not "home sick" and also has age on his side.

That all said and done it would be a massive statement of intent by us (not that we haven't made more than I could of ever dreamed already) I would love to see Messi in the sky blue shirt that I have loved and followed for 40+ years.... It feels weird discussing my beloved club and the best player on the planet, bar none?

Gary Lineker said on twitter earlier today the FFP is about as much use as the FA's fit and proper person's test.IE:Carson Yueng and BCFC.

The fact that Serge and Messi are proper bum chums means that if we did get him there is no way Aguero would go the other way - he'd want to stay to dominate World football with his best mate

Must say before the tie v Barca I was in the camp of getting Messi. After watching him over the two legs I must say I was underwhelmed by his performances. It seems to me he's lost some spark or zip and maybe a little pace since his injuries. I think it could be a case of paying for the reputation and not the player now. Anyone else agree?

I'll give you the first leg as he was very quiet, but not sure what game you were watching if you thought he was average on Wednesday. He was brilliant - best player on the pitch by far.

I thought he was very god in Wednesday. Some of it is his sheer presence that distracts half of the other team and as on Wednesday it pulled our defence horribly out of any semblance of shape.
The rest of it is that he is supremely well balanced and skillful, an absolute delight to watch and one I'd love to see at City.
Will it happen? Maybe. Of course we can afford it and perhaps when we have the 60k stadium (in 14/15 is that???) he is the signing to make sure we fill it.
Would he want to come? I think we would be the prime PL club for him. Having Zabs and Aguero can only help.
What about FFP? Would be a big gamble as so much is uncertain, but if we can afford Messi I'm sure we could afford some decent lawyers to show what a bag of half thought out shite FFP is.

I don't like him as a person. He was right up there with the diving, rolling on the floor dirty cheating Barca side.
I want to see us get the real next top player who can develop to be one of the best in the world. That would give me far more joy than signing Messi would and cost a damn site less.

No thankyou.

i would argue that he's probably played a 30 year old's catalog of matches tho.

i think he's a little midget shit and i'd rather do it without paying a world record cunt's fee for someone like him. Once in a lifetime player. Let him have that lifetime at Barca and find our own heroes.

cheers

... Get your point .... But he's " a little midget shit" I'd like on our team running at the likes of Skrtel, Vidic, Mertersacker et al. Sure as hell we would win more games and produce some even more blinding football!!!

For the price being quoted he's not worth it.
Let's spend on finding our own young star who can have a good and illustrious career with us. Messi will always be regarded as Barca's. I want our own.

Wow! Agree to disagree then. I'd take certain genius over hope but hope your wish comes true for us as well.

How this would fit in with FFP god alone knows but he'd sell a huge number of shirts and help us with corporate merchandising etc so the net cost would be far less although we'd be paying out big time for personal merchandising. Is it going to happen? Nah. This is the usual crap from the agent during contract negotiations. I think he'll end up staying at Barca.
