End Of The Season?

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

We need to make sure we finish in the top three. I can't see us winning anything else as we are vulnerable defensively. MP will pick daft Martin no matter how useless he is. It staggers me that he cannot see it.......any half competent half wit can see it. How can u trust a manager that trusts a daft Martin?

Come Thursday morning we have 12 Prem games left and we will be wondering why Pellegrini picked a team with the CL in mind in a tie we cant win, rather than prioritising a Cup tie we should have won.

Why can't we win in Barcelona? after today it would not surprise me if we do win.Remember this is City we are talking about.

We have to win by 2 clear goals, minimum, in the Camp Nou, without a manager on the sideline, and we havent played well since the Chelsea Cup tie.

Our top striker looks short of match fitness, our back 4 looks leaky and we have the small matter of facing down a Barca team who tend not to lose games by 2 goals or more on their own patch too often.

Winning todays tie was a far more realistic proposition and trophy chance than wednesday represents. Sadly Zabba, Komps, Ferna, Milner and Silva were all sat today when at least 3 of them should have started.

Well mate you are entitled to your opinion and i respect it.Mine is we will win 3-1 on Wednesday and be in the hat for the QF.Let's not forget we won't have demento Demichellis either on Wednesday that has to be a plus point surely.

Got to love the optimism but it's a huge task.
I know we might now cling to 'well won't it just be typical city to lose at home to Wigan and then three days later, win by three goals at the nou camp?' But i'm not so sure.

We can do it yes, but even the most optimistic blue must realize it will probably take nothing short of our best ever performance in recent years to do it.
I know we beat Bayern away, but the stakes weren't so high then for either team.
Let's hope we can, but looking at how we played today it's unlikely.

I'd be more concerned with the game at hull. We simply have to win that. Drop points there and our season is in danger of petering out. We have a lot of really difficult games coming up, anything less than 100% from everyone just will not do.

Gillie! Am with you brother! !!! Yup it would be typical city to go turn this around and get through to qf and it would not at all surprise me either.

Seasons certainly not over. Chelsea, arse and dippers will all drop points as will we. Be a close call!

We only need to win by 2 goals ie: 3-1 or 4-2 2-0 is the one I don't want as that means ET/Pens.

The fact that we were so negative and cautious at home to them doesn't fill me with confidence we can go there and dominate.
It will take a huge, fearless performance. Even then though we've seen that if Barca are struggling, they always get that bit of help. Remember when they were losing to Arsenal and then RVP shot about a second after the whistle went for offside and he was shown a second yellow? Either that or they all start diving and the referee willfully obliges.
Worse than the Rags they are.

No.

End of the cups this week I think, then we can concentrate on the league.

Sergio will regain his sharpness, we don't need to chop and change so much and can go for it. It might not come off but we can't call it finished until at least Easter.

I'm putting money on us beating Barca and some on is getting through to the next CL, typical City is alive and well I suspect.

Of course we can beat Barca and get through. And of course we are still in pole position in the league. We know we can go to Arsenal,Liverpool ,the swamp and Everton and win the league but not in the form we have been showing in the last month or so.

Looking back at recent games I can only think of one game where we have genuinely played well and that's Spurs away.I suppose WHU at home should count but I just rule them out as being a crap side. Blackburn away we were sloppy and maybe even lucky.Newcastle maybe a bit sloppy and again a tad lucky.Blackburn at home also shouldn't count!

Watford at home, sloppy and lucky.Chelsea we were well beaten and poor.Norwich we were awful and scraped a draw.Barca we weren't close,Stoke we were poor and scraped a win,Sunderland we were sloppy and needed special strikes and then we have Wigan.

We haven't been good for quite a while now and it needs to change for us to even get close to winning at Barca and definitely to seriously challenge for the prem.

If we don't beat Barca ... the season is over ... we won't win the league ... in fact right now to me winning against Barca is looking more plausible than the league ...

What I didn't understand about today's team selection was if it was to save players for the Barca game then shouldn't we have rested strikers and not defenders? What is Pellegrini's game plan for Wed? Have Komps and Zaba and Ferdy fresh while Aguero played out the full 90? Surely he knows the maths this time, we need to win 3-1 or better, right?

The Yaya sub was also only part because he was on yellow but also cuz Pellegrini had made up his mind before the game that's all he was going to play today and be 'saved' for the Barca game ...

Aguero clocked full 90 mins and so did Nasri ... surely those two would benefit us more at Barca had they rested a bit today ...

If we win (and qualify) against Barca, draw a relatively easier two legged tie for the QF and make it to the semis ... then only today's loss can be forgiven ... anything else and yes I am afraid not much left to save in the season ...

We will drop more points than all the other top three as things stand ... given our ties and given what we are seeing since the start of Feb from this team ...

I still think we're going to make a run at barca. Not sure we'll get through but I think we'll make it interesting. Really hoping we can do something g special.

We have a very good chance of getting through, much better than most people seem to think. However, I doubt we'll do it because I doubt we'll go for it. However, if we don't that leaves us 12 games to focus on and win the league, which I believe we will.
