FA Cup loss to Wigan will not damage Man City - Pellegrini
Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini says his side's shock 2-1 FA Cup defeat by Wigan will not damage their chances of winning more trophies this season.
The Capital One Cup winners are nine points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea with three games in hand.
They also trail Barcelona 2-0 going into the second leg of their Champions League tie on 12 March.
"We have won one trophy and we have a lot of things to fight for until the end of the season," Pellegrini said.
"First we must win in Barcelona on Wednesday and then try to go top of the table with our three games in hand."
City struggled to find their rhythm against a well-organised Wigan side, who advance to Wembley to continue their spirited defence of their trophy against Arsenal in next month's semi-finals.
"I think we played the worst first half we have done in my time here," added Pellegrini.
"We did not have the pace we needed against a team with Wigan's intensity."
Jordi Gomez put the Latics ahead from the spot and James Perch doubled their lead after half-time, while it was only in the last half-hour that City began to create chances.
"We only reacted in the last 35 minutes. We scored one goal and we had at least three or four more chances to score more," said Pellegrini.
"But if we do not have the same intensity as these teams then it is very difficult to win. We knew before the game that we were playing a difficult team.
"After losing, it is very difficult to say that we were unlucky, but we at least deserved a draw - we had three or four chances to score but it was too late."

'Big clubs don't sell their best players' - Pellegrini rules out Aguero departure
City star Sergio Aguero has been regularly linked with a return to La Liga this season, but his manager is not willing to part with him at any price.
Manuel Pellegrini has ruled out the sale of Sergio Aguero, insisting "big clubs do not sell their best players".
The Argentine has been a revelation for City since joining from Atletico Madrid in a deal believed to be worth £38m in the summer of 2011.
He has scored 73 goals in 113 appearances for the Blues, claiming the Premier League, Community Shield and League Cup over the course of the last three years.
The 25-year-old has bagged 26 of his goals for the club in just 25 outings this term, despite having been sidelined on numerous occasions by injury.
And, while that form has led to the player being linked with both Barcelona and Real Madrid, Pellegrini is refusing to entertain the idea.
"I don't think the idea of Sergio is to leave Manchester City," he said.
"Sergio is very happy here. You never know what can happen in the future, but he is a very important player here.
"Big clubs do not sell their best players and I don't think Sergio will be going anywhere."
Earlier this week it was suggested that City may need to look specifically at English players in the summer due to the expected departures of a number of homegrown stars.
Joleon Lescott, Micah Richards and Jack Rodwell are among those being linked with moves away, which could affect the Blues' ability to name a squad containing no more than 17 non home grown players over the age of 21.
But Pellegrini has calmed fears over an exodus of English players, claiming Richards and Rodwell in particular still feature in his plans.
"I don't think anyone at the club is worrying about where the players are from," he continued.
"It's not a thing of nationality. It's a thing of the best team. A lot of teams are like that. Maybe sometimes teams in Spain don't play with Spanish players.
"It's very difficult to have important English players in every team. They are very expensive and you don't have too many English players.
"All the important teams have English players in their side but, if you want to buy an English player, it is difficult.
"We have five English players and three of them - Joe Hart, Joleon Lescott and James Milner are very important. The other two - Micah Richards and Jack Rodwell - have had an unlucky season because they've had a lot of injuries.
"Foreign players are very important and English players are exactly the same. Technically, physically and tactically, they are the same. There are English players in all the big teams here.
Pellegrini: We won't go easy on City legend Rosler
"But it is not easy to bring another English player to Manchester City because who will sell?
"Foreign players are very important and English players are exactly the same. Technically, physically and tactically, they are the same. There are English players in all the big teams here.
"I don't think Liverpool would sell their four or five important English players, the same for Chelsea or Manchester United and every team. It's the same for us. If someone came here to buy Joe Hart, City would not sell him.
"We're in England. I know it is important for English football to have English players in every team. But first we must first finish this season and we will see what happens.
"We know we have to have a certain amount of English players, so we'll see the way we do the list next year.
"Of course, we are always thinking about next season, but we don't have to have any decisions to make at this moment.
"Richards, Rodwell, Milner and Hart all have contracts with the club. Only Lescott finishes his contract - maybe he will not continue here."

Tottenham are ready to offer England international midfielder James Milner a way out of Manchester City, who are yet to offer the 28-year-old a new contract. Sun

Uwe Rosler: Martinez tactics helped Wigan beat Man City
Wigan manager Uwe Rosler says his tactics in the FA Cup quarter-final win over Manchester City were inspired by former Latics boss Roberto Martinez.
Martinez, who is now in charge at Everton, led Wigan to victory over City in last season's FA Cup final.
"I studied Roberto's tactics last season at Wembley and he had a very brave game-plan," said Rosler.
"I also watched the league game at the Etihad last season and Roberto's team played some periods to perfection."
City won the top-flight match with a late winner against Wigan but went on to lose the FA Cup final against the same opponents.
Rosler added: "We tried to replicate parts of that but also bring our own identity in terms of our pressing and counter-attacking."
The Latics, who are chasing a play-off place in the Championship, will play Arsenal in the semi-finals as they head back to Wembley for the fourth time in 12 months, while City's hopes of a domestic Treble came to an end.
Jordi Gomez fired Wigan ahead from the spot and James Perch made it 2-0 after half-time when he beat Gael Clichy to convert James McArthur's cross.
"To win - and the way we won - is my biggest achievement as a football manager," Rosler said.
"We did not do it just by parking the bus and being lucky. We played very good football and over long periods."
City, who won the Capital One Cup at Wembley last weekend, only managed one effort at goal in the first half but improved in the final 30 minutes.
They replied through Samir Nasri after 68 minutes, but could not force an equaliser thanks to some heroic Wigan defending.
One challenge in particular stood out: when Emmerson Boyce stopped Edin Dzeko from scoring what looked an almost certain goal from point-blank range with a last-ditch tackle.
"That was unbelievable," said Rosler. "But I am a big believer that you need match-winners at both ends - not only in the attacking box but also in your own box.
"That tackle by Emmerson was a decisive moment for us but so was the tackle by Perch when he scored our second goal.
"Both tackles demonstrated the desire and will-power we had. Emmerson is a symbol of that, not only with this result but since I walked into the club."
Rosler, who is still seen as a hero by City fans after his four-year spell with the club as a player in the 1990s, did not celebrate his success at the final whistle but says he is now looking forward to facing Arsenal.
"To win the FA Cup last season was an unbelievable achievement that put Wigan on the worldwide football map," Rosler said. "I never thought we would do it again and be in the semi-finals.
"The players deserve all the credit, but if you ask a young manager who wants to climb up the ladder if he wants the chance to play Arsenal at Wembley, then of course I would take that."

I hope "not selling your best players" applies to Yaya also. I know he is petulant and wasn't his best yesterday but he is a critical goal scorer when it counts. I would have left him on yesterday. At the moment there are so few goal scorers on form in our team and I believe he could have scored an equalizer?
