Spot on.

Imo what Zidane did was just a pathetic gesture too. If he was so upset, why 'headbut' a bloke in the chest, so as not to hurt him ?

The whole business is ridiculous these days. Tbf to the Hull player, he didn't milk it. Usually one bloke pretends to headbutt the other, & then the geezer on the receiving end, pretends to be hurt. Nothing has actually happened either way, just a pointless fucking pantomime.

Bizarrely, loads of players now get away with punching people in the face & drawing blood, because Andy Gray told everyone you have to do that in order to jump in the air & it's unintentional. (Because he used to deliberately punch people in the face all the time). But get sent off for pretending to headbutt.

I guess the point is when I heard that Pardew had headbutted a player and the media were going crazy, I expected that he'd done a Zidane like headbutt and really smashed his head with force at the opposition player.
As a matter of fact there was very little in it, a squaring up and a flick of the head.
Still wrong and deserves a suspension but not worth the hysteria that it got.

I think the fact he is a horrible cunt, who actually deserves a smack in the face himself, is working against him.

Must say I agree here. Heard about it and was looking forward to watching it to find out it was the dampest of damp squibs. Maybe if media had said altercation or touchline dispute rather than headbutt, the circus and hype that followed wouldnt have been as bad.

That said, he has previous form, and as a manager should lead by example and not provoke incidents like this. Plus he's an obnoxious twat who is fully deserving of any punishment meted out.

Was Cookie's transgression re Nedum's Mum any worse than what Pardew did, or didn't do ?? .....and yet Cookie resigned.

The thing is though with that absolute ASBO (Pardew), he always does shit like that and then apologises as if that makes it okay then... I reckon Newcastle should have sacked him.

It's a similar situation to the one we were in with Tevez though, we couldn't get rid of him even for gross misconduct so the only thing they could do was a formal warning. That fine was a sign they took it seriously though.

I was actually surprised that led to his resignation. Now don't get me wrong I think it was the correct thing to do but I just felt it would've been relatively easy to brush it under the carpet after a while.

Well if we are going by the strict definition of headbutt then what Pardew did was reported correctly. But I think it was blown out of proportion by the media.

Things like that happen between players on the pitch all the time, they also happen between managers.
Why is there some special taboo about a 'headbutt' which makes it any worse than regular handbags or 'squaring up'?
I really do think this has been blown way out of proportion.

Remember what Mancini did to Moyes a few years back where he barged into wee David, not a great deal of difference from what Pardew did.

Yes what Pardew did was wrong and out of order and yes he is an unpleasant man but the media, unsurprisingly have absolutely gone to town on this.

I agree it was blown out of proportion. Just pointing out that what Pardew did was a headbutt regardless of the media attention it got and whether it was warranted. But 95% footballers and managers aren't as hard as they pretend to be.

Scummy, petulant thing for anybody to do on a football pitch, let alone the manager of a team, especially with children looking up to these characters. Should be forced to make a grovelling public apology
