Kolarov is whatever he wants to be. If he wants to play upfront he's a striker. If he wants to go on goal for a bit then he's a keeper.

He'll be staying. 100%

From the Southampton website

As a kid growing up in Moseley near Kingston-Upon-Thames in Surrey, he followed Chelsea and hoped that he would get the opportunity to play for them, but the rejection as a youngster turned out to be Southampton’s gain, something the modest 17 year-old is grateful for.

The chance to outshine his role model Ashley Cole is reason alone to leave Luke desperate to play against the Blues once again.

“Between the ages of ten and 14 I went along to Stamford Bridge quite a lot either with my dad or a mate,” says Luke.

“My hero was Didier Drogba but Cole was the kind of player I aspired to be. I rated him the best left back in the world and if I had gone to Chelsea all those years ago, I still would have been kicking me heels waiting for a chance to play.

Agreed.

Given other areas of the team which need strengthening (centre-half, midfield and a couple of forwards), a young, overpriced left-back ought to be way down on our shopping list; even less so if a bidding war starts between several other clubs.

Pellegrini needs to spend a little time working his magic on Clichy, rather than needlessly splashing out on this lad.

Granted I've only watched Southampton a hatful of times, but am I the only one who can't see how he's worth 30m?

Surely with our scouting network and academy system the only players we should be blowing major cash on these days are true superstars.

It would be great because hes young and English but hes to much money and i hate to spend on every player tens of millions on every player we buy. I'd like to Academy finally began to bear fruit.

Ticks all the boxes for me. Tough, quick, thoughtful. A damn good player and young and English into the bargain.

This is a prime example of what's hurting the English national team.

People claim the EMNT sucks because the Premier League is overrun by foreign players. While, yes, there are alot of foreign players, the issue is that when good English players burst onto the scene they're given massive price tags so alot of the PL teams can't afford the players. Furthermore, the massive price tag makes these players think they're world-beaters already and that they don't need to work to develop.

Now, Luke Shaw is good but this price tag is absurd.

So many things I disagree with about that...

But let's start with "EMNT"...really?

Goes downhill from there.

Very good player indeed. Can defend, good going orward and he has a fantastic cross. Will be england fullback for many years.

Gotta pay the big bucks for these guys and i hope we do. Would take Lallana as well actually.

If we pay 30 mil for Shaw, we won't be paying for what he is now, rather we will be paying for the player we think he will become.

No way is he currently producing 30 million quid's worth of fullbackery.

We will also possibly lose one or two very promising kids from the youth set up if we do this.

I see this as the same situation tge rags found themselves in with rooney at Everton. We would be happy for him to continue playing his trade with Southampton but we all know that if we dont buy shaw then chelsea will.

Shaw is an investment and is prob the best young left back I have seen in a long time. We need to battle for his signature imo.

I think given his desire to go to Chelsea our interest should mainly be to make sure they pay top dollar. We dont want a player who wants desperately to play at our rivals. I would imagine the reputation of Mourinho would be another attraction for the lad?

Given the price, the age of the player and the position that he plays, this is a Chavski signing if ever I saw one.

It's a weak area for us, and he is the brightest prospect in a long time, he ticks pretty much every box that we require as well and he could potentially be with us for over ten years. We would have to pay an English premium, a premium for his potential, and very probably a Man City premium (although we're starting to show we can walk away when they're taking the piss now) but it's one of the few cases where it would be worth it. Maybe we could let them have one of our younger players in return, someone we don't think will make it in our first team but who has some talent.

Remember, Chelsea according to Mourinho have 'no strikers'. If they sign one, it could be 40-50 mil, 2 could be 60 70 mil.

They have a young fullback who is keeping Ashley Cole out of the side.

It would be a real luxury to spend 30 mil on another fullback.

As for Shaw himself; he won't give a fuck whether he was a Chelsea fan or not, he will just sign for whoever he feels is the best option.

If I was an attacking fullback, I would prefer to play for the Count rather than Mourinho, by a long long way.
