Liverpool Away: Pick your matchday 11+7

Postby Alioune DVToure » Tue Apr 01, 2014 10:58 am

Thought it would be interesting to set aside a thread for how we should approach this crunchiest of crunch matches. I stuck this team in another thread but I want to see everyone else's.

Logic: Solid core, boss midfield, protection in wide areas, decent counter-attacking threat.

I would probably line up something like that to start with.

Then react accordingly depending on how it goes. Liverpool's game plan is to go 100% at kickoff. If we are nice & solid, then for one thing we can pick them off on the break when they get over excited, & two, they will run out of steam & we have lots of options on the bench.

We can't legislate for the dives though. They will happen & that is my main concern for this game, which also connects with one of the reasons I can't fucking stand them. We have been conned out of games by Liverpool more than by any other team, & it's my biggest worry for this game.

hedging your bets a bit ADVT aren't you?
Half the teamk picks itself
You have multiple choice options for half of the rest.
what exactly is your team for this crunchy encounter?
Never criticise a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes.
That way when you do criticise him you'll be a mile away.
And you'll have his shoes.

We had the Kompany-Lescott partnership for the home game and that played a big role in keeping Suarez quiet.

I don't have much confidence in useless Demichelis against Suarez, Sterling, Sturridge etc. but it's a clear blind spot for Pellegrini that isn't going to change.

Hart

Zaba
Komps
Demi
Clichy

Javi
Ferny

Navas
Yaya
Silva

Aguero

I think Ferny and javi need to be very disciplined and stay and protect the back 4, the same as what Chelsea did to us. I think Navas for the counter attacks and he tracks back very well too.

They will try and come out of the blocks flying and score early goals like they have often this season, we need to stay compact and scare them on the counter with navas, aguero and silva. Let them tire and then bring on Nasri second half when we can try and control possession against tired legs. Potentially being on kola to fire balls into the box and Jovetic to bring the unknown to them. We also have Milner who can come on and put a shift in.

I don't think we want to try and win this till the second half. Stay firm and strong, let the pressure mount on them, hopefully they should need the win more than us! We can settle for a point if we make sure we win our other games. The longer the game goes on the more nervous and tired they will become. It's vital we don't concede in the first 30 mins.

Sergio has to play some part this weekend or we will be adjusting the team to suit, for me Milner has to start, or we trust our players to stand up and deal with the matter in hand and play the fuckers of the pitch,I know it sound daft but pissing it down will suit me. Sturridge nailed early. Old school.

Can we worry about Sunderland first? Don't beat them and we need snookers.

One game at a time .......

Knowing City it won't be smooth. I might even need to cheer Chelsea on for the only time in my lIfe if results go a bit awry for us over next couple of weeks

Just musing, but if it were up to me I might just be tempted to play something like 4-2-1-3, with Garcia and Fernandinho holding, Silva playmaking and Aguero (if fit) teamed with Negredo and Navas up front.

I'd have Yaya on the bench to start with and bring him and Nasri on if/when required, later in the game.

I don't think Liverpuddle's defence is the best around and I'd like to get at them straight from the kick-off. We've nothing to fear from this lot if we believe in ourselves.

It all depends on result on Saturday. Win that and we can go to Anfield knowing we can afford a draw. Lose or draw v Saints and we have to win v dippers.

Win v Saints and I'd pack midfield. Deny them space and they don't have a plan b. If we need to win v dippers we'd need to go and be more adventurous which could plsy into their hands.

Hart
Zabba Kompany MDM Clichy
Milner Fern Garcia
Nasri Yaya Silva

If Aguero is fit swap Garcia for Aguero

Most of you pick a similar team, the big inclusion for me is Nasri. He wasn't great against Arsenal, but hes been really good this season and the start we got against united was largely down to the attacking players we threw in from the get go.
Tracking back is overrated.
