This was brought up earlier today, and I'd be interested to see other users' views...

The quality of the kit is my biggest issue. The material Nike use is a big let down after the umbro kits.I don't care that it's a Nike product as long as it doesn't feel cheap and tatty.

I haven't bought a shirt for over 25 years but I always have one of the current strips because they're bought for me as birthday or Christmas presents.

I never buy shirts for myself. I get 1 off the missus, 1 off my mum and 1 off the in laws for Christmas so I end up with them anyway. I think the adults are fine and there's nothing wrong with mine but I hardly wear them.

The real piss take is the kids kits. You think the adults kits are cheap and shitty, next time you are in the store have a look at the kids. All the printing, badges and Nike tick included are just stickers. The collar isn't even the same as the proper kit the players wear and it's a different material to the proper kits as well. Then they charge you £50+ for the kit plus printing and badges (which kids always want because they are kids) and the kits and all the extras matter to the kids, grown men rarely give a toss one way or the other.

The club are mint for ticket prices especially for the kids but the kits are a fucking joke.

The kit actually looks nice from afar. I like the basic colour, the trim and the arm bands. Up close, though, the badge is garbage and the material is flimsy. And yet the price goes up.

Adidas, Umbro, Puma, Kappa, Under Armor, even latter-day LCS... they all seem to take pride in the quality of their gear. I honestly don't know how Nike get away with it. Utter crap.

I remember when we were all disgusted that the rags used to have 3 kits and change every season at a time when we were alternating between a new home kit one season and a new away kit the next meaning we changed 1 kit a season, but a kit would last 2 seasons.

When we started going down the rags route I thought fuck it and decided never to buy another kit again. I now tend to by generic city clothing such as t-shirts instead.

I'm a tryhard indie bell-end and wouldn't be seen dead in a football shirt unless it was for ironic reasons.

I think that it's important to wear the team colours to the game because that support is visible to the team, to the opposition team & their fans and to the TV cameras & their audience. But it isn't important to wear a current or even recent shirt . . . the right colour works perfectly fine and the right colour can be anything in that colour . . . even something your mum knitted is fine so get over that 'must have' message that the advertisers pressure you with.
If we had De Gea and the rags had Hart, we'd be top with a 9 point lead and they'd be in 12th place - that's the difference between a 'good' keeper and a 'top class' keeper - 12 places - think about it.

I was looking for the option - I do not buy shirts as I am a grown man.

I go to the gym twice a week and play 5-a-side and I wear City shirts at all of them.

Yes I'm 42 and I'm proud to wear them.

So, so far it seems the majority buy less kits now than in the past, for various reasons.

As someone mentioned above, I should have included an option for kit quality to be a factor. Apologies.

I translated 'brand' as kit quality - as is the case that Nike=poor crap quality.

I had a feeling a few people might do that. Editing the poll resets it, though.

Kits are the biggest rip-off going. And anyone over 30 wearing a football shirt on non-match occasions looks a proper bell-end.

One common denominator is that most if not all of us on this board are well beyond our youth, and youngsters are the ones who tend to buy the replica gear.

I imagine myself as being at the younger end of the MCF posting spectrum and I'm 30 next.
