Try Kompany centre back?

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

I have said before that Kompany built his reputation on playing centre back.
"Like all bullies, they've just found out that there is a much bigger guy in town, someone who is richer and more powerful than their worst nightmare. And this smiling Arabic assassin is intent on stealing all the treasures they've nicked off everyone else, and pulverising them into commercial and footballing oblivion as he does so."

In the Belgain league, yes. He didn't look too convincing there in Hamburg so was moved to midfield via right-back I think. He was immense as holding midfielder for us last season but looked lost at centre-back. Looked good against Stoke and again tonight though so who knows

Agreed, its his natural role and where he's most comfortable.

Ive always been impressed with him when hes played center half for us and I think he'll be there for a good long while now barring injury.

Mancini tried to sign him when he was at Inter. Good times ahead for Vince then. And us if he carries on like this.

No offence to Kompany or Toure but they haven't played a decent striker for 90mins yet so look comfortable with what they have faced. However, when Beatie came on for Stoke he had two clear changes to score. If Doyle was half decent finisher he would have scored tonight as he brushed Toure off with ease.

All is looking much better and tighter but there are still concerns over individual errors.

He's playing the Yaya role for me in Football manager. Admittedly he's 33 now and Toure is long gone.

Back in the early days, when he was first stuck in at cb, he went missing at set pieces etc & was a liability. Not because he's shit, but because it's the Premier League & it's often suicide to throw in brand new defenders with little experience of that kind of play.

If we spend £40 mil on a centre back for next season, the same thing could happen & it could take one/two seasons before he gets it.

That's why we should keep our 'veteran' central defenders.

On another note though, if we did find ourselves suddenly in possession of a superb new central defender, playing Vinny in front of a back 4, with Yaya/Fernandinho, would look like one seriously solid midfield for away Champs Lg games.
