In Montreal on Sunday - help with viewing

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

In Montreal on Sunday - help with viewing

Postby MSG77 » Fri May 09, 2014 12:34 pm

So, I probably should have started this on Wed night. Sorry for that.

Anyway, I'm going to be in Montreal on Sunday morning.

Anyone out there with any help on how best to view the match? I'm not even sure if the PL is on TV there? I'm guessing that anything English isn't hugely popular in Quebec.

But given its a major final day in a major sporting league there must be somewhere in a major city that'll have the matches on. At the very least the City and Dippers ones that determine the title. Finding a "City" pub is probably a bridge too far, but just wondering if anyone knows anywhere for sure where (or even if) there is at least a "soccer bar" with halfway decent atmosphere and minimal hostility?

Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. I'm already not too happy I'm prob going to miss all the associated coverage I could get if I was in the States, but I really, really don't want to miss the match at the very least.

Cheers.

Two seasons ago I watched the Tottenham game in [urlnp=http://www.kilkenny-pub.de/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=19&Itemid=10]THE KILKENNY IRISH PUB[/urlnp] by the Hackescher Markt.
It's in the actual S-Bahn station, so really easy to get to.

Its on NBC in the US. And there is a ton of extra coverage on the day as well.

Just did a quick check - looks like the coverage for PL is on TSN in Canada. They have the game on Wed listed as being shown.

For Sun they have -

Sunday, May 11

Liverpool vs. Newcastle

10am/7am

TSN

Sunday, May 11

Cardiff vs. Chelsea

10am/7am

TSN.ca

Sunday, May 11

Norwich vs. Arsenal

10am/7am

TSN.ca

Sunday, May 11

Sunderland vs. Swansea

10am/7am

TSN.ca

Sunday, May 11

West Brom vs. Stoke

10am/7am

TSN.ca

So it looks like Dippers game is on TSN, then 4 others are on TSN.ca, which I'm assuming is streaming. No City game at all.

Is it possible this just isn't being shown at all in Canada? How?

So, again, I guess my only hope is to find a bar that has satelite (or something) where they show a bunch of international games not normally televised regularly.

My hopes are fading. This sucks. I might have to watch it on DVR and avoid all contact with anyone or social media until I get back to the US on Sunday night. Argghhhh! Or worse, watch the Scouse game with score updates from City just because I won't be able to resist.

Again, anyone with any knowledge of soccer pubs in Montreal that'll have the game is greatly appreciated. Looks like it is a longshot but the only one of viewing it live.

EDIT: OK, another check shows it is on "SportsNet" in Canada. Never heard of this station. Also, not sure it will be carried in Montreal. Still prob have to find a soccer pub showing a lot of games to get it.

When I was there me and the missus had a whole room to ourselves... It'll probably be more crowded on Sunday, though.

Here's some more............. http://www.worldsoccerbars.com/montreal-soccer-bars

Can't for the life of me remember the name of the bar i watched an England WQF in, blinding place where they were actually proper Canadians rather than the pretend French tossers, mind you that was in 2001.

yep there's a couple of pubs (irish) where you can watch in Berlin. A great place. after the Marathon there i dashed to one of the irish pubs in a viaduct somewhere in the city. we lost to Owens late goal at the swamp that day.

great beer and food there and quite surprisingly cheap.

I remember exactly what pub I was in that day as well. Dirty cheating cunts! It was at like 7:50 of 5 mins of stoppage time.

Amazing how the decisions dried up for them now Bacon has gone. Remember thinking a few times this season "That would have been a pen for them before". Just shows how much of a power hold top clubs really do have. Maybe we are finally starting to crack it, as much as the conspiracy theorists would have you believe everyone is out to get us.

OK, back on topic.

That would probably the one I linked to. It's in an S-bahn viaduct by the Hakescher Markt station.
