What are the odds on somebody getting injured and Cleverly going? Very unenthusiastic about the whole thing.

Why only 4 strikers? For my money we should more forwards and less midfielders. Forwards score goals and change matches. In reality of the 7/8 defenders 2 or 3 won't even kick a ball. The same is probably true of the midfield. Stevie will start every game regardless of form. Think Henderson likewise and probably Wilshire. Why bother with Oxlade-Chamberlain? Much rather someone like Crouch or Defoe or Wickham or the Burnley lad. They wont start but they are more likely to change a game from the bench. Also do teams have to take 3 goalies? I'll bet in all the world cups and euros there has ever been no side has ever used all 3 goalies

Honest to god what a chumpfest. Taking England to the world cup is like taking Austin Allegro to Monaco.

England's group:- Italy, Uruguay and Costa Rica. It might happen of course, but I can't see them getting more than 3 points from that group.

I always thought that re:keepers but you have to take three...imo you should have an option to take two..or four even, if you were slightly eccentric

Think we'll win all three as it goes. Italy are notoriously slow starters and Balotelli blows cold most of the time. Costa rica? Really? Take Suarez out of Uruguay and they are average at best. The problems wull come when we face someone half decent

If you have to take three then, could Crouch be one of them?

Welbeck is decent for England. A lot more effective than fucking Rooney is anyway.

I personally don't mind that squad. At least he's taking the young players and giving them a go...we're hardly blessed with great options these days and that's basically more or less exactly what i hoped he'd do.

It'll be good to see players such as Shaw, Barkley, Lallana, Sterling involved. As much as we love to dislike them, the Liverpool core is quite important in my opinion and it makes sense to build the team mainly around them as they *work* as a unit.

I'd go for something like this personally

.................... HART

JOHNSON - JAGIELKA - CAHILL - BAINES

................. GERRARD ..................
......... HENDERSON ... BARKLEY ........

... STERLING ... STURRIDGE ... LALLANA

Henderson is in good form and will link up well with the rest of the scouse players. There's also a lot of energy and directness about that team. Fuck it - attack teams. Why the fuck not? It's a young and naive team, but sometimes you've just gotta build for the future. Germany did it - they more or less sacked of the old guard a few years back just to develop the kids.

I'd definitely drop Rooney (that sadly won't happen) as he's shite for England.

That's because he has no other options. Zilch. Martin Samuel wrote a decent article on it. These young players (Barkley, Sterling etc.) are in the squad, because they are the best option avalaible. Sometimes by far. Nobody thought "Fuck it, I'm leaving this seasoned veteran at home and going with youth instead", certainly not Roy fuckin Hodgson.

To make it clear, I don't have anything against the inclusion of any of those players, certainly not the likes of Sterling or Shaw who played a cracking season. But let's not lose perspective here. This is it. There's no proper alternative. One only has to look at the standby list - Tom Cleverley (Manchester United), Andy Carroll (West Ham United), Jermain Defoe (Toronto FC) in particular - to realise that.

On Rooney's recent England performances, if he played for West Brom or Newcastle, or indeed City, he wouldn't even get a sniff of an England shirt. That's not me saying he's a bad player (imo he is the best of that squad) but he doesn't deserve to be playing.

It has always been the same. John Barnes got 79 England caps & was shit in about 77 of those games. It's down to who you play for.

That goal has always done my fucking head in. Nobody actually tried to stop him; that's why he scored. If you gave Micah Richrds the ball, told him to go for goal, & a team defended like that, he would score as well, in fact half the people on this board would. Aguero would be able to go round all 11 of them twice if they had that attitude to defending.

You wouldn't be allowed to score that goal in training in Div 3.

Two very poor selections there that stick out a mile - Smalling and Henderson.

Smalling's main quality appears to be his ability to play badly anywhere across the back line. Henderson's main attribute is that he can run around, a lot, quite quickly, knocking over anything that comes into his path including tackling passing empty crisp packets blowing in the wind - he's a poor mans Scotty Parker.

Group stage exit but a win against Costa Rica will prob save Roys bacon.

Barkley, Lallana, Sterling, Sturridge and Ox- Chamberlain should be on the field as much as possible.

I'll agree with you on Smalling. Him and Jones are the two worst players in the squad.. but Henderson isn't that bad. He's done well this year and deserves it in my opinion.
