His former club, Feyenoord, has this Italian striker. He seems strong on the ball and is tall. Not sure if they actually duelled each other yet.

Nool or anyone who's willing and able to read Dutch, what are the fans saying of Rekik now that the season is over?
"I used to be 6 foot 2 with curly hair, look what it's done to me"

"In my career so far it's the most important goal. You score the goal in the last minute to win the title. You're not sure if that's ever going to happen in your career again. I wish I could tell you how I did it but I can't. I thought for all the world that Mario was going to have a go himself but he just moved it on one more and it fell at my feet and I just thought: 'Hit the target, hit it as hard as you can and hit the target.' And it went in."

I don't read Dutch but i did have a chat with a Dutch ex pro about Rekik recently, & he thought Rekik would probably make it as a player eventually, but reconed he was nowhere near good enough for City at the moment.

I think he's too slow & would only succeed in football suited to such players, or in a team which sits back & defends more. I think for City, defending all that space, he would scare the living shit out of everybody.

For some reason I laughed at this sentence, it painted a very vivid picture. Sorry.

On a more serious note, it's a shame that he's not developing in the right direction fast enough for us if what your dutch contact is right. Would've been nice you know, to have an academy player come through after a drought (draught?) of several years.

He sounds like he might suit somewhere like Italy - look how well thought of Savic is - maybe Rekik could go on loan there, learn the art of defending & then his pace won't be as much of a problem or am I clutching at straws that someone will succeed from our Academy?

I've browsed through a couple of PSV forums, and the opinions on Rekik seem to be very split.

Some posters don't think that he's developed at all this season and that he was only good until the winter break and pretty crap after it. they think he lacks pace, experience and positional awareness.

Other think that he has the potential to be the "new Cannavaro", that he will get to play in the WC this summer and be the backbone of the Dutch defense for the coming ten years, and that he's good enough to compete with Nasty and Demi.

But most posters are more sensible. They think he has good potential, but that he's still too young an inexperienced to lead a defensive unit (which he's been asked to do at PSV this season). They also seem to agree that he's not good enough for CIty yet, and want to see him loaned out one more season so that he doesn't get stuck on our bench. He's been talking about wanting to play in Europe next season, though, so most fans don't think PSV will be an option for him (missed the Europa League).

He absolutely insists he wants games & that's completely fair enough. We can't give him games, so he will have to go somewhere or there will be some serious sulking going on. Unless of course he does play in the World Cup & is brilliant, then he can come straight into our squad, but I think the chances of either happening are, unfortunately, very very unlikely.

A loan in the Prem or in Italy may be a suitable step forward, although I fear for him in the Prem tbh.
