Interesting to see how many people said Essien.

I interviewed a Chelsea fan a couple of weeks ago and they said they're not arsed about Essien anymore as he's been a shadow of himself for two years now and isn't the player he once was due to injuries.

with the World Cup coming up in ~21 days I thought I'd dig this up now that players are older etc to see how people feel now

Neuer
Alves--Silva--Kompany--Alba
Vidal--Yaya--Iniesta
Ronaldo--Zlatan--Messi

Hard to find a place for Lahm and Suarez, Costa has been good this season but Zlatan scores where ever he plays and this season has been no exception. Despite his injury Messi scored more than Costa in both domestic and european competition. Courtois is really coming through as a talent and a lot of Atletico's success could be contributed to him, but Neuer is the top choice keeper IMO, his vision and ability to launch counter attacks is second to none.

One interesting thing, 12 months ago I would have expected Falcao to walk into this side, but even before his injury layoff he was a shadow of the player he was at Atletico.

And at a monstrous 5'8", I'm fairly certain he'd still win more headers than Agger.

Pepe would be way ahead of Thiago Silva for me. And Suarez would be in any team.

Suarez would be in any team, had he played in Europe this last season. Without it, it's harder to judge.

I always look at this with the outlook that if I was picking a team to play for my life in a one off game, who would I select - my XI would be

Lloris

Zabaleta
Kompany
Sergio Ramos
Lahm

Reus
Schweinsteger
Iniesta
Bale

Ronaldo
Messi

Interesting to see how many had De Jong in there a couple of years back but he ended up being shipped out a year later.
Still not convinced Garcia is an improvement though.

So you would have kept him even though he refused to sign an extension?
