I agree that Silva is far more important to us and I think as long as Silva is in the team, any high world class attacking midfielder/withdrawn striker will score and assist the same amount.

Obviously I'd rather he didn't leave and this had never happened, but I have little doubt that the likes of Fabregas would score the same.

Fat Frank has been doing it for years.

This may have already been discussed and forgive me for sounding naive BUT...WHAT IF..

Yaya leaving has been a part of our transfer strategy all along?
Its not an impossible theory knowing his age, wage, desire to ultimately go back to barca and the amount we could cash in now rather than lose out eventually. Also take into consideration FFP, could we replace him and also use money to strengthen elsewere?

I'm amazed at the sudden drop in his contribution on here. You lot are mental, he was by far the most influential member of our title winning side this season. Without him this year no trophies I'm afraid.

No trophies at all without him since the takeover.

Only a spasmoidal abortion would think we had a strategy to jettison one of the top 5 players on form in world football right now.

Bogglicious.

The one thing about Ferguson was that he generally knew the right time to move a player on, and to be fair he almost always got it right. If the club do opt to accept an offer, I trust these days that it would be for the right reasons

That may be true but it's certainly not because silva is better, we need him gone, we don't need him at all etc.

As I said, fabregas would most likely score and assist at least the same as yaya imo.

Frank lampard has hit similar stats to yaya's last season. Only he's done it for years in a row.

Yaya scores spectacular goals and it's amazing sometimes for such a big guy to do what he does, but he isn't this "all round" midfielder that some of the media think he is. He is an excellent attacking midfielder and there are others out there.

Once again I'll say it - I don't want him to go, but it's high time he showed some respect.

I think you undervalue Yaya's influence on our game. He's not just an "attacking midfielder". He dictates our game much more than e.g. Silva, when he drops deep, collects the ball from the CB's and moves it up the field. Sometimes it's with neat, short passing, sometimes with great balls wide, and sometimes with fantastic, deep passes through or over the opponent's defense.

No one else in our squad does this as well as Yaya, and you can clearly see that our game suffers when Fernandinho (or last season Barry and Rodwell) are asked to do the same job.

For me the play-making role from deep midfield is Yaya's biggest contribution. The goal-scoring and attacking threat this season was a (huge) bonus.

So after all his talk about ridding the game of racism, he says it would be an honour to play for a team just charged with that exact offence, what a hypocrite.

One thing about Ferguson was that even when he totally fucked up by moving a player on, or not moving a player on, another one dragged him out of it, or wankers like Arsene Wenger let him off the hook.

He got it wrong pretty much every time, even going back to the days of Strachan, who came back to haunt him with Leeds. Most recently by not tying up Tevez to a deal, just assuming he would put up with anything to sign for the mighty Maan U & then also failling to replace two ancient centre backs & ageing midfielders years earlier rather than being stuck with an ageing team.

Again he got away with it because we were shit & Wenger etc performed as usual. He's basically got most big decisions of that kind hopelessly wrong.

We are trying to sign a bloke who has just said this;

City target Benatia claims he's been 'disrespected' by Roma

Manchester City target Mehdi Benatia has accused Roma of disrespecting him during contract negotiations - and reiterated his stance that it would be 'a dream' to move to the Etihad Stadium.

The Moroccan defender has emerged as an alternative to City's first-choice centre-back target, Eliaquim Mangala.

With Porto demanding as much as €40m for Mangala, and the Frenchman suggesting he would prefer to move to Chelsea, City have been forced to look at other options.

Benatia, who joined Roma from Udinese last summer, has impressed in Serie A this season.

The 27-year-old claims the club promised to reward him with a new contract. But he revealed the terms on the table are 'unacceptable'.

Benatia: "I never said I want to leave. But Roma have not kept their promises. They had told me that they would make me a new contract offer if I had a great season.

"But I have received an unacceptable proposal, less than €3m per season. I replied that I would not sign it.

"I'm in love with Rome, I'm very fine here but my mistake was to be too correct with the club and too honest."

Benatia has already gone on record say it would be 'a dream' to sign for City.

But he admitted he could yet finish his career at Roma.

He added: "I only said that anyone dreams of teams like Real, Bayern and City.

"My agent is doing his job, I could leave but I could also stay and finish my career in Roma. But I was disappointed (with Roma), I deserved more respect."

I'm presuming that all of you who think this kind of thing is a reason to kick a player out, would like to go on record as saying you don't want this bloke signing for our club ?

Benatia is claiming that Roma are welching on an agreement to offer him a substantial increase in his pay if the season was successful which plainly it was. I don't think you can compare this with the Yaya situation.

I'm more on about the big calls he made over the likes of Stam, moving Phil Neville after arguably his best ever season for them in centre midfield, same with Yorke, Cole, Nistelrooy, Butt, Beckham, all the way back to Sharpe when he was a very promising youngster. It could be said shipping McGrath out was a mistake, but that was for cultural reasons, perhaps that was also the case for Strachan.

And to be fair, your response gives zero credit for the fact that the 'one who pulled them out of the shit' may just have been ready to do so hence why the player was moved on when he was.

In the end 'unfortunately' for them when it matters (ie now) he clearly clung on to some of the 'class of 92' for too long but on the whole he did move people on at the right time. Tevez was slightly different as he was never a United player.
