Nasri has agreed a long term extension to his contract till 2019 according to L'Equipe.and should be signed and announced soon apparently. Dzeko and Kolarov to be nailed down I think assuming Richards and Milner are leaving.

Happy with that, if true.

Very happy with that if true! Samir has stepped up under Pelle and can't help but feel the best of him is yet to come!

Good move for all involved!

I don't really see the point with five year contracts. I don't think it benefits the club at all, an it shouldn't benefit the player (unless you do Yaya style renegotiations). Why not a three year extension with a natural renegotiation after two?

Samir's already contracted to 2014/15 so I think this is a four year extension to 2018/19. I'm slightly surprised it's not three years as well.

I don't think the Club wanted Richards to go but he apparently wants to. If Sagna comes the club will take what they can for Richards. I think Hull were reported as offering 8 million.

As for Milner he' apparently isn't happy at the amount of game time he's getting and wants to play central midfield which ain't gonna happen. He may yet change his mind and sign an extension or the club might even run down his contract to keep him one more year as a home grown player. However, if post the Luis sale to PSG the club has to raise some extra funds I think Milner might well go. The alternative would be to sell Kolarov or offer him to Roma as part of a Benatia deal. Then we'd have to get another left back or rely on Sagna and/or Zaba as cover for Clichy which would weaken the squad in my view.

i don't think you mean that a five year contract is a problem , just that for someone Samir's age it seems a long time.

If we get Barkley, i want him locked into a seven year contract. This guy is great. He even had Yaya struggling at Goodison , last time out.

Resale value - when Real/Barca start with their transfer bollox after a good season it acts as a deterrent of sorts. And if they prove to be really determined it means they have to break the bank to get him.

Samir is only 26, so we arguably tie him up for his prime years. My gripe is that a long term contract means very little. A player can wiggle his way out of it quite easily if unhappy. And for the club it makes little sense as well. Yes, the resale value might be a bit higher the first couple of years, but you also risk ending up in a Mills-like situation. Players do turn to shit or get career ending injuries.

i see the point you are making but the only problem with long contracts is we get stuck with wasters like Bridge, Mills on outrageous sums of money. Now if we could get them to sign an agreement that says if they don't play a certain number of games per season, for example(barring injury).

Short term contract means that within a season or so, the player can start applying pressure for more money/power & if the club doesn't bend, he just needs to stick out one more season, then he holds all the cards.

If Yaya was on a shorter contract, he would be in a very strong position now; able to put a gun to our heads next season. He isn't, so he has no power whatsoever.

With this deal, we will have the best years of Nasri & any arguments come when he's 30 years old.

Re Milner; people keep talking as if it's gospel that he wants to leave, but that's certainly not what Milner has said recently in public.

Just the other day he mentioned how 'you celebrate for a few days, then that's forgotton & all the concentration is on the World Cup, then as soon as that's over, you are back to trying to win the title again..' That doesn't sound like someone who is planning on going anywhere.

Milner is part of the glue that keeps the squad together. I think the club will fight hard to keep him if he wants to go.

I'm almost certain it comes down to something Milner said before he met up with the England squad, he was batting off the usual leading questions from the media about staying at City and he said he'd talk with the club about his contract after the World Cup - which as usual they managed to spin it into Milner is going to ask to leave after the World Cup. It's a combination of cynical spin and so-called Chinese whispers (if that phrase is acceptable these days - I tend to lose track of the shifting PC tides).

Nope, Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin and Montpellier attacker Remy Cabella have been called into Deschamps' squad as replacements
