Adidas sponsored the Golden Ball award. Of course they wanted it to go to their poster boy.
Incidentally they also sponsored the Golden Boot and the Golden Glove award (also won by players from Adidas countries), whereas a "Nike-player" won the Young Player Award, which was sponsored Hyundai.

ffs I just saw this about that little douche messi winning the golden ball. what an absolute farce these awards are. messi has been largely shite since about 2012.
