Poor Pre-Season

Postby sandman » Mon Aug 11, 2014 9:02 am

I am a little disgusted with our pre-season, both in the obvious lack of effort and lack of gametime that our first team have had, I understand the world cup was a great distraction but the last three games we played were against teams littered with players who went to Brazil.

Lost - Dundee
Won - Hearts
Won - Sporting Kansas City
Won - AC Milan
Lost - Liverpool
Lost - Olympiakos
Lost - Arsenal

Whilst I have faith in Pellegrini I am very confused as to how we have now completed the pre-season with a second string defence and with yesterdays game being a week before the new season and some of the lads we will be really counting on (Kompany, Zabaleta, Aguero etc) didnt even come on from the bench for 20 minutes gametime.

(Venting my frustration as I fear a title defence as poor as the last one)

Whilst it does seem odd that we are going into a season without several players having played a single minute of pre-season, I expect that could stand us in good stead later in the season.

Arsenal will get off to their customary flying start, probably with Liverpool not far behind them. As usual, both teams will forget that it's a marathon not a sprint and fuck up more and more the longer the season carries on

Calm down mate......

Dundee - Reserve Team, not fit, not wanting injuries
Liverpool - Many more first team players, we didn't lose, we drew
Olympiakos - Again, we drew
Arsenal - Still not sure about this one. Obviously we had a string of First-teamers missing due to fitness, but I am not concerned. The people at the club are working with the players on a daily basis, have faith in them.

I think we lost 4 pre-season games last year aswell and that turned out alright didn't it....

My only concern is that we haven't kept a clean sheet in 7 games.....but once Vinnie and MDM/Mangala are in the team, this will be sorted
"If we fire our manager after just one bad season - We'll become Chelsea"
"If we think we can fix the problem by buying expensive players - We'll become City"
"If we remember the good times to entertain us during the bad times - We'll become Liverpool"

So, keep calm and do it the United way

"We invest in young players, That is what we are good at — we’re not like other clubs who can spend fortunes on proven goods. We know that Manchester City are going to pay stupid money, pay silly salaries and all that. We can’t do anything about it. We concentrate on what we can do to try to bring players in for the right reasons. We invest in those who will be with the club for a long time, who will create the character of the club, who will create excitement for our fans. We are very proud of that and we are going to continue that way" - Alex Ferguson 14th May 2012

It's a bit unfair to say we've played poorly in every game too. At times in all the games, Liverpool especially we've played some lovely stuff

It's totally reactionary bollocks based on one game yesterday. Chill. It's fucking preseason and means nothing.

In most games, we've played miles better than I expected with the players available & discovered 2 gems in Zucculini & Iheanacho (who looks better than most of Arsenal's strikers to me). In adittion we have seen some close to genius play from Jovetic.

Was our last title defence so bad?

We did finish second... I prefer to see it as a freak Fergie season rather than a total disaster for us...

i don't mind any of the results, even the Community Shield, but what i do mind is the lack of effort during the latter stages of preseason. that time was supposed to be when you try and sharpen your game in preparation for the league, not a time to get 45 or 90 minutes of jogging on a pitch.
I'm not really a City fan. I'm just here for attention.

lol, yep its a tad early to be pressing the panic button just yet, having said that we do NEED to start well, expect a much stronger challenge from Chelsea this season, if we drop 'silly' away points early on we may not get them back.
