Player Ratings V Stoke

Given 8 - Made a very good save in the first half (and got injured in the process) then didn't have much to do until he punched Kompany out late in the 2nd
Syvinho 7 - Was heavily involved in the game, especially in the first half. Got forward well but didn't forget his defensive duties. Must be glad he doesn't have to face Lennon every week!
Kompany 8 - Won just about every aerial battle and was very comfortable and composed when the ball was at his feet. Best game I have seen from him for some time
Toure 6 - Still crap in the air but made some important tackles and interceptions
Zabaleta 8 - Good game from Zab, never goes missing at the back and supports the attack whenever he can. Not sure why he went off?
De Jong 9 - My Man Of The Match. Worked very hard, didn't let their midfield have a sniff and created space for Ireland and Barry to shine
Barry 8 - Getting back to his best. Far more positive than he has been for a long time. Worked equally as hard when we had possession as when they had the ball
Ireland 7 - An unusual game for Superman. I'm not sure he fully understood what he was being asked to do but never stopped running, tackling and trying to play the killer pass
Robinho 5 - My patience is running out with him. Today was his big chance to show us and his new boss what he is capable of but nothing he tried came off. Having said that, I am hoping that his reaction to being replaced was an apology rather than a goodbye
Petrov 7 - He's a funny one is our Martin. If things are going badly he gives up and seems disinterested but a goal changes him into a hard working player who will tackle back and fight for the ball
Tevez 8 - Brilliant! He must be really hard to play against with all his tricks and perpetual motion! Took his goal very well

Richards 7 - Seems to be getting his head around what a Right Back should be doing at long last! I still prefer him in the centre of defence though
Bellamy 7 - Gave away a stupid free kick just after coming on but made up for it with pure fight, aggression and work-rate
Garrido - Came on too late to get a rating but it was nice to see the new manager acknowledge his existence!

I don't know if I'd give as many 8's as you Kev as I didn't think it was an amazing performance, but a good one against a poor Stoke side. That's not to say I'm not delighted though!

Given - 7 - not a lot to do but 2 great saves when called upon
Sylvinho - 6 - better than last week, though his lack of pace could cause us problems against better teams
Kompany - 8 - very composed and solid at the back, possibly his best performance for us
Toure - 7 - better from him today, him and Kompany worked well together
Zabaleta - 7 - Etherington caused him problems but his tackling was superb for the most part
De Jong - 7 - he has really settled now into the team, protected the defence very effectively
Barry - 8 - MOM for me, best performance for a long time
Ireland - 6 - worked hard but his final pass wasn't always great
Petrov - 7 - good game for Petrov, always looked dangerous when he had the ball
Robinho - 5 - just didn't happen for him today, tried hard but his touch wasn't there
Tevez - 7 - six in six for the guy who doesn't score

Finaly people are starting to wake up about Robinho.
I've always said the guy is beyond overatted.
He's sitting on a nice mount of money here.
About time he fookin earned it.
Other then that, top ratings.
Barry was my motm though.

Given - 7 - Very good save in the first half and did well with the aerial threat. His kicking was a bit wayward on a few occassions though.
Zab - 8 - Looked good at right back and just as composed at left back. Didn't seem to put in any of his usual stupid tackles today which was nice to see.
Toure - 7 - Best performance for a while. There was one race with Etherington where he absolutely left him for dead, not sure where that pace has come from or why he doesn't show it more often.
Kompany - 8 - His best performance this season and he's certainly gonna be needed in the next few weeks with players injured or away on African Cup duty. Dominating in the air and cool in possession for the most part, few too many aimless lumps up the field in the first half
Sylvinho - 7 - Decent performance and was caused realtively few problems until he was subbed.
De Jong - 7 - Looks like he really knows his role now. Strong in the tackle and nice, simple passing.
Ireland - 7 - Worked tirelessly again and some of the old passing was evident today. Tired a bit toward the end but a decent showing from Superman.
Barry - 8 - His best performance since the home game v Arsenal. Worked hard, got his tackles in and got forward well. Hopefully back to the level he is capable of.
Petrov - 7 - Good performance from Martin playing on the right, felt a bit sorry for him as all his crosses were wasted on a team of midgets. Got one, could have had a hat trick. If he had a right foot he would be fucking lethal.
Robinho - 2- Woeful. Shit in possession, weak in the tackle, no effort at all. Kicking that jacket as he went off was the hardest he worked all day. If he starts ahead of Bellamy against Wolves I'll be fuming.
Tevez - 7 - Another good performance from Carlos. Worked hard as usual, ran at defenders and generally made a nuisance of himself.

Subs:
Richards - 7 - Did well when he came on, have been really impressed with him the last 3 or 4 weeks and there really are signs of the old Richards coming back.
Bellamy - 7 - As busy as ever when he came on and should have had a stone wall penalty.
Garrido - Forgot he existed, did fine when he came on.

7 Given First half save kept us in it and distrubution was a lot better today.
6 Sylvinho .Ok for most of the game. And some good passing.
6 Toure Kept us organised well.
8 Zabba Attacks well and didnt feel he was gonna be so rash today.Turning into one of the best crossers for me.
7 Kompany A good solid and didnt make any mistakes until the end.Defenders didnt seem to hoof it today and passed to the midfield.
7 NDJ passing was a bit worse than his normal standard but did the niggly stuff as well as he normally does
9 Barry my MOM today.Defended well.Attacked well. For the past 3/4 games Gareth seems to be getting back to being good again for me.
5 Robson.Worst I've seen him play but did seem to be defending a lot.
8 Petrov. As good as Bellers in my book dont know why Huhes didnt play him more.
7 Ireland Solid defensively, but half the time as wasteful as Robson when he tried to find a creative pass.
8 Tevez Wish his shooting was a bit better besides that he has everthing else and gives it during the game

7 Micah Did all that he was supposed too.
6 Bellers. Did ok.

9 Mancini.Moving Martin to right showed he can be unpredictable and brave and good rearranging and reading of the game with his substitutions.

Agree with most of that except Robi gets a 6 for me as I could not fault his effort. Not much came off for him today but the will was there, and with our and the management's support, he will be back to his best sooner rather than later. (And Zabs didn't go off KK!) ;)

Given 7 Quality save from Tuncay in the first half, it would have been a different game had that gone in
Zabaleta 8 Had a great game, when he moved to left-back to maintain Etherington he did a great job, smart move by Mancini
Toure 8 Best performance for months, looked solid through out and looked good on the ball
Kompany 8 Looked a fucking tower, and dealt with alot of Stoke's long balls into the box
Sylvinho 6 Improvement on last few games and got forward well at times
de Jong 7 Patrolled the space infront of the defence as robust as ever and broke up a few Stoke attacks
Barry 9* My mom, again one of the ones who had the best performances for months, don't think he lost the ball once
Ireland 7 Was finally alowed to roam forward again after months of playing deep, looked dangerous and caused Stoke problems
Petrov 7 Some great passes and his took his goal well, was very lively in the first half, caused Stoke problems all day
Tevez 8 Another quality game and yet again took his goal well, made chance after chance with his typical bullish play
Robinho 5 Tried and covered alot of ground but didn't do what he's best at which is to attack at will, he still looks unfit to me

Richards 6 Looked confident when he came on and made some good tackles
Bellamy 6 Didn't have alot of time to make an impact but should have had a pen and he always looked dangerous
Garrido - Didn't have enough time to make an impact

Given - 8 - 2 mint saves, kicking was better. Class act.

Zabs - 8 - Best game ive seen from him for a while. Was allowed to get on with what he does best, defending. Nothing go past him. Picked and chose his times to get forward unlike the reckless abandon he flew forward with under previous tactics and was rewarded with an assist for the second goal. Zabs to Barry is becoming a good source of assists.

Toure - 7 - Read the game very well and stood up to be counted when the aerial threat came. Got better as the game went on. Had a kingpin to play off in Vinnie which is what he needs.

Kompany - 8 - Led the way at the back with brave, no nonsense challanges and clinical clearances. Would be the one of the first names on my teamsheet, i like his style of defending. Hes a warrior.

Sylvinho - 5 - Not up to it im afraid. Id like to see us pick up a young left back to develop from somewhere. Probably italy now Mancho is here. Anyway, Sly is nothing more than a stopgap and a slow limited one at that.

De Jong - 7 - Not really the kind of game he has to use his tenacity in but he played the foil to Barry and won his battles. His forward passing was hopeless as usual but its a given with him.

Barry - 9 - Excellent. Broke up play, used the ball well, got forward into attacking positions, stood up well at the back at set pieces and a great climb for the 2nd goal. Close to 10.

Ireland - 7 - Didnt get much chance to shine on the ball but worked ever so hard off it and was intelligent when it came his way. Mature performance.

Petrov - 7 - Brought a new dimesnion to the side and repayed Rob with a goal. Was fucked towards the end but it will do him no harm to stay on. Still defends like a mong but we can carry him and Robinho in matches like this. Swung some excellent crosses in towards the end too.

Tevez - 7 - Wasnt as productive with the ball as he could have been and wasted some good oppotunites but showed the strikers instinct for the goal and worked ever so hard in multiple positions of the pitch. Not a lone striker as proven in the second half.

Robinho - 5 - Never really got going in attack which limits him. Was tried on the right and upfront at various parts of the game and looked hopeless. Cant work backwards either like Tevez. Not good enough.

Subs

Richards - 7 - Shored up the backline when he came on and nullified Etheringtons delivery from open play. I like the look of him at RB and Zabs at LB. The team was much stronger defensivly.

Craig - 7 - Should have had a stonewall penalty, happened right infront of me and i couldnt believe it. Language was a tad suspect following this incident. Was a good outlet towards the end. Saved for Monday.

Garrido - would just like to say welcome back!

Agree with all poster in an average sum. Robinho isn't doing what is expected. Very, very overrated. Can he suprise me in the future. I doubt it very much. Hope I´m wrong though.

Given 8- Despite being a fantastic goalkeeper overall, a lot of people have commented that one area of Shay's game that was never his strongest was commanding his area and coming out to meet the ball. Well, he improved on that tenfold this afternoon, catching, punching and harassing their forwards throughout. A couple of fantastic saves thrown into the bargain too, but we've come to take that for granted.

Zabaleta 7- Excellent distribution, in particular the cross to Barry for our second goal. He tackled very well and had Etherington in his back pocket for most of the game- but I do worry at times about his lack of pace. There were a couple of occasions today where a quicker forward might have exploited that.

Touré 8- His best game in a long time for City. Concentration was much better, he was more tenacious, read the game superbly and generally looked strong and in control at the back. No forays forward, which I was actually pleased about. His positioning was mostly spot on.

Kompany 8- After the Bolton shambles it was really important for Vinnie to respond and he did so excellently. Chewed up everything in the air with ease, outmuscled their strikers and was fantastic in possession of the ball. Composed and cool at times, and aggressive when necessary. Point off for the poor communication with Given towards the end, but that was a minor blip in an otherwise brilliant performance.

Sylvinho 7- Vastly improved on the last couple of games but I'm still looking forward to Bridge's return. It's vital to have some degree of pace at full back in the Premier League but unfortunately for Sly, he's lost that- unsurprisingly at his age! Still, in the context of this game he was solid and efficient until he was substituted.

de Jong 8- Another excellent display, I'm getting quite used to that from him at this stage. His passing has improved dramatically on last season to add to his already superb tackling and tenacity. Always, always battled for the ball and used it well. Gave us the solidity that allowed Ireland and Barry to surge forward.

Barry 9- Absolutely brilliant- that's the Barry I know we really signed. The last couple of months have been disappointing but today, he was quicker, hungrier and was outstanding in possession- his passing range on days like this is just a joy to behold. His defensive work was good as well, tracking his runner constantly and he regained possession on several occasions. My Man of the Match.

Ireland 7- Not quite as lethal as when he's really at the races, but a good showing nonetheless. His passing was mostly intelligent and forward thinking, he linked well with Tevez and made some really clever movements off the ball, which Robinho would have picked up on this time last year. I think he needs to be a little more selfish in front of goal though- the ability to strike a ball is certainly there as we've seen in the past.

Petrov 8- A brilliant all-round effort from Martin. I've never seen him put in that kind of workrate before, but his distribution was just world class. Constantly whipping inch perfect balls into the box- if RSC had been fit and playing he'd have had a hat-trick with that kind of service. Some of his long range, and cross field passes were outstanding. And of course there's the small matter of scoring!

Robinho 4- A half hearted, lethargic performance again. Fair enough, if you concede possession that can be forgiven- but he should take a leaf out of Tevez's book and at least make a conscious effort to win it back. It seemed like everything he touched turned to shit this afternoon and I just wonder how long this is going to continue. There's no denying he has incredible natural ability, but if he's only willing to use it when the sun's out, there's no place for him at this football club in my opinion. Buck up lad.

Tevez 8- Energy, vision, tenacity, awareness- he has the lot and has been proving as much with regularity over the last couple of months. Even when the ball was seemingly lost today he harried and won the battle time and time again. He's onto 10 goals for the season now but he offers so much more to the team than goals. Long may it continue.

Richards 7- Was well instructed by Mancini on what to do and did it efficiently. He won everything aerially and didn't give his man an inch for the duration. Some great no-nonsense clearances and tackling in the last few minutes too.

Bellamy 7- Plenty of pace, energy and enthusiasm but not quite the cutting edge. I think it was the right decision not to start him today though, because we'll need his battling qualities on Monday night at Wolves.

Mancini 9- We look a well organised, disciplined yet vastly talented group of players now. The work ethic was there in abundance, but so too was the quality to keep the ball and create chances. A very promising start and a clean sheet is just what the doctor ordered.

Given - 8 - Marshalled the back four well. A couple of excellent saves. He's a top asset to our team and probably the best keeper in world football at the moment.

Zabaleta - 7.5 - All action effort from Pablo. Popped up numerous times in defence to cut out balls and also helped set up our 2nd. Did well after being switched to left back when Micah came on.

Toure - 7.5 - I thought Toure played very well today. Positionally sound and will take confidence from keeping a clean sheet with minimal fuss.

Kompany - 8 - Back in the starting XI and hardly put a foot wrong. Dealt well with Stokes aerial threat. Here's hoping he can form a solid partnership alongside Kolo.

Sylvinho - 7 - Dealt with Whitehead well until being subbed in the 66th minute. Certainly not the quickest full back out there but he is wily old stager who can handle his own (Lennon being the exception).

De Jong - 8 - Broke up play well. We OWNED the midfield for the majority of the game and Nige was a big part of that. Love his grit and determination plus his one touch passing has improved dramatically in the past month or so.

Barry - 8.5 - Best game in a while for Barry. Defended with vigour, got forward well, passed crisply, all in all excellent. If he keeps on playing like this we will be very hard to break down in the middle of the pitch. MOTM.

Ireland - 7.5 - Superman buzzed around all match. Passed well but his killer ball was slightly poor on a couple of occasions.

Petrov - 8 - Took his goal well, should of had another were it not on his stronger foot. Kept up his great record of performing well when starting. Corners were ok but some of his crosses and cross field balls were mouth-watering.

Robinho - 5.5 - Fat Robinho doesn't look to be match fit yet to me. He seemed to be always a step behind the run of play and was rightfully subbed for Bellamy. Robbie is great player and one of my favourites but his recent form since injury has been poor and he doesnt warrant a place in the 11 at the moment.

Carlos Alberto Tevez - 8 - Loved his finish for the goal today and that celebration cracks me up. Never stops running, his touch and interplay is also class. His run of form is amazing at the moment and long may it continue.

Subs:
Richards - 7 - Maybe his adidas boots had some new spring system installed or something but what I do know is that Micah was winning every header with what looked like a 50" vertical leap. Tackled well also and shut down Etherington. What injury?

Bellamy - 7.5 - Gave away a silly free kick in a dangerous position but made up for it with yet another fantastic cameo on the left flank. Full of pace and running, he could of scored if it weren't for that German twat fouling him. A Diver he is not!

Garrido - N/A - Not enough time to rate but good to Mancini play him.

Mancini - 9 - Despite us playing with a lack of height I loved the way he set us up. His tactics on the fly are refreshing and served us well with Petrov scoring the 1st. A promising start to what we all hope amounts to a long and successful career at Manchester City.
