I posted this in another thread but i think it suits this discussion too.

We are been opened up down the centre in all our games this season but we still persist with a flat midfield 4 when we dont have the ball, We can still play Pellegrinis 4-2-2-2 formation but use it when we dont have the ball also and push the opposing team wide instead of letting them run straight at our centre backs. If we did defend with a 4-2-2-2 formation without the ball, then our midfield 2 would be closer to the centre backs and our attcking mids would be closer to our strikers. Spurs had something like 54% of their attacks down the middle of the field and since then it has been happening every game.

I dont think our engine room is broken, its just that there is so much space between our front 2 and the centre backs that there is too much space been created for opposing teams to play in

Hard to disagree. If we're gonna stroll to a second place finish someone is gonna have to do fucking something.

If we are in the position to depend on Lampard, then Soriano and the other fella should fuck of to Malaga and spend the rest of their life on the beach.

Said it before and I'll say it again - we need a Roy Keane.

What do you mean by this and how do you think Fernandinho/ Fernando compare role wise?

Please elaborate, if Kolarov had been fit would we have needed a Roy Keane?

Yaya might not be at the levels of last season. Fernando looks like a man out of a poor league and like many of the scouse signings average at best. Sorry to dig him out but he is a major worry, when to think Europe was his game we were all thinking.

A proper leader. Keane is a tit off the pitch, but on the pitch he dragged every single player to work 100% Yaya wouldn't be strolling about because he'd know he'd be getting a hiding afterwards. Is Kompany a leader? He talks a good post-match interview but is he a leader on the pitch? If so how? What does he do?

Both Ferns don't compare do they. But they're only there to tackle I'd imagine.

Garcia was brought in to replace NDG, fernando comes in and replaces Garcia, have either offered much more to the side than NDG did defensively. Thought Fernando looked good first couple of games but had looked laboured since coming back from injury.
Fernandinho looks like he sent his shit brother back from the World Cup to play for us getting nowhere near the performances he gave last season altho he hasn't had a run of games it's quite worrying.
We just don't have the power and drive we had last season

We have mainly opened up because we have defended like shit.

When Clichy gave that ball away, all of our other defenders were in position. It doesn't have to be a goal.

Zabaleta didn't even know that the goalscorer was there. Zabba was, & right now is, shit almost every time he plays, along with Demi, Mangala, Kolarov, Clichy, & quite often , Vince as well.

We have seen the depths Kolarov & Clichy can sink to, but Zabba is just as bad most weeks, as is Sagna. Zabba gets away with lots of terrible defending, because he is a hero. But right now, he's usually shite. Worse than the bloke in the oppo team.

It doesn't matter how many we have in midfield, if we defend like shite. We shouldn't really have needed Fernando vs those Russians, but we do, & we probably need two more, because the back 4 are playing like a bunch of wankers.

Like Milner?
Or when we get a player that wants to run around, Jovetic, we moan that he doesn't do this or doesn't do that.

We are perfect for the opos to counter attack, fullbacks push up MF beyond the ball all fucking night, Look behind you !!!!!!!!!!!!! we have been sussed, play a 10 have runners and you can rip City to bits, the goals are a set piece do not want to even go there the rags should have had two via that route, the second and almost all the Roma game spare men picking the head up pass goal, fucking school boy tactics, Pellers is deluded in thinking this will work we are out numbered from the 1st fucking whistle, they could have had 3 in 5 mins. Manager/ Coaches and players to blame for another shocker of a night. Almost nailed on we lose at QPR as we are a bunch of Pussies from top to bottom. On top of that Zabba is playing crap and Glichy is Jekyl n Hyde, Vinny looks fucked and Fernando is so bad it is untrue, straight talking we lack balls and players who are gonna work100% as a minimum, slow play from almost all of them. Going backwards City at an alarming rate.

Some good points raised here (apart from R*y K**ne...wash your fucking mouth out).

I would suggest we go with a back 3/5 with one of the DM dropping into the central role of the back 3/5 and play a diamond with 1 up top. This way our full backs can bomb on and the player at the base of the diamond can drop and make a back four if required, also if the back five is in place and we win possession centrally then the DM can step out of the back four and join the play. To would be much more fluid and would plug the gaps IMO.

Hoddle has had a lot say on City, weak this and that, well time for the man to put up, I fear Vinny will be out injured, Kun knackered so on the bench, and we slip to a defeat. Just glad I am not going which I hate saying.
